Earlier today, the Samurai Shodown NeoGeo Collection was announced for PC, Switch, and PlayStation 4. An Xbox One announcement was noticeably absent from the official press release, but thankfully there's no need to worry.
According to the developer Digital Eclipse, the Xbox version of this seven-game collection will be released alongside the other console versions, on 28th July. Its absence within the original announcement was not "intended" according to the studio head, Mike Mika.
In a separate exchange, Mike stated how an Xbox release had always been part of "the plan" and found it very "weird" that it wasn't mentioned in the press release. He went on to reinforce the fact it's "definitely coming out" and was ready to go alongside the other SKUs.
The game itself will include Samurai Shodown 1 - 5 (with three different versions of the fifth game, including a previously unreleased title known as Samurai Shodown Perfect). The extra title contains a brand new story and ending. The collection, in general, will also include save functions, retro features, online play, a museum, and music player.

Oh nice I was worried I was going to have to get this on The Switch and I hate the Switches controls for fighting games.
Great to see this is coming to the Xbox One also, if it reviews well I might have to pick this up on disc... I presume it's being released physically as well as digitally..
Thank the Maker! I saw the announcement over at Gematsu and feared the worst. Best news of the day, by far.
Great news. An odd omission there to be sure.
Seeing as I'm a long time fan of SNK who has been playing their fighting games since Fatal Fury and the first Art of fighting, I'll most definitely be picking this up. I already own these games, but this is worth it for the online mode and artwork. I can't wait!
@BANJO For me, 8 don't care how they review this, as I have played all of these games before, and still play them until today. Except of course for Perfect, as this is the first time it will be released after being cancelled for the Neo Geo. I already know that most of the game in this collection are fantastic, and no kind of review will ever change my mind about that. On top of that, this could turn out to be a huge collector's item.
@Gutsukyo I will admit, my knowledge is limited here.. I have played 2/3 of the collection.. You speak highly of the whole collection, from what I have played I will try to get the physical version at a discount... I agree, it could be in time a very much in demand collection of games....
@BANJO Well, to be honest, I wasn't too found of any of the games after Samurai Showdown 4. All the games after that one seemed lacking in quality as well as design for a lot of the newer characters. But they are still worth having in the collection. Samurai Showdowns 1 through 4 though were excellent games, 2 being the absolute best in the series in terms of game play and just about everything else.
As I mentioned before, I have all these games except for perfect, which I really don't have very high hope for since it will probably be basically the same as 5 and 6. But the online play and artwork makes this collection well worth the cash. No all they need to do is make a Fatal Fury King of Fighters, and Art of Fighting collection similar to this Samurai Showdown one. That would be just fantastic!
@Gutsukyo I certainly see your view, I really cannot comment, I have never played them... haha, I want to comment with a view but I can't....
@BANJO I see. I'll guess you'll get your chance soon enough. If you are a fan of 2D sprite based fighters, then you should really check it out. I doubt you'd be disappointed.
@Gutsukyo It certainly looks promising from the footage so far, I will wait for a review and if good, and could get it down the line when on sale...
A King Of Fighters collection would be great, of all the systems King of Fighters on the N Gage I strangely enjoyed the most. Being portable and a decent game in its own right meant I got plenty of playtine from that version...
