We received a lot of information about Xbox Series X during its deep dive last week, and here's something else we found out - exactly why the console resembles a fridge. Ultimately, it was created in such a strange shape due to how the internal components fit together in a "really unique way".
This was shared by Xbox Series X principal designer Chris Kujawski during Austin Evans hands-on with the system, where he commented it was built that way for a good reason:
"I mean, you put the box together, you can see how all of those big components kind of fit together in this really unique way, and it's all driven by pulling air through the system with this big axial fan on the top."
Kujawski also commented on the design potentially causing problems in terms of fitting on shelves and under TVs, noting that the console can be used vertically or sideways, and that it has a "really small footprint". Microsoft hasn't been shy about commenting on the fridge-like design of the system either - in fact, it's been making jokes about it.
How do you feel about the Xbox Series X design? Let us know in the comments.

It makes sense, really. One massive fan can spin slower and still move a massive volume of air. Since hot air rises, a tower design is the way to go. I really, really like this design. It's so elegant. 😍
@gingataisen I love it too. It won't fit vertically under my TV, but I'll just use it sideways instead.
I kind of like the look of it. I don’t set stuff under my TV though, but to the side of it. It’s actually going to work better for me.
It's certainly a unique design, and that's why I like it. We haven't had a console that looks like it before.
It will have to lie horizontally in my TV unit, the only way it will be able to stand vertically will be if it is in front of the tv
I like the design overall, and it makes sense from a cooling perspective. Since it'll go where my One X is now, but vertically, it'll actually save me some space.
Already looks better than the Japanese Covenant dropshi... er, sorry, PS5 "devkit," so that's certainly a plus.
I don’t care what the reason is, I really like the design as it is. I think it’s pretty cool looking!
I think those who want to dislike it are going to and those who want to like it will.
Personally, I like it a lot. It does kind of look like a tiny cute refrigerator.
i don't mind the design, i just think it looks odd compared to other systems we have had over the years
then again i thought that about the GameCube before it came out and i love that little thing
Pretty cool design honestly. Can’t wait!
I really like the design.
Console design means a lot to me for some reason? I can enjoy an ugly console for its great games but probably won't ever 'love' it.
I love the design of it.
12.155 vs 10.28 is 1.875 TF. The PS4 was 1.84 TF. So basically the Xbox Series X Is a PS5 and PS4 combined.
@MinecraftGreek so you’re saying the SeX is a PS5 and a PS4 duck taped together? 😂
