Speculation has been circling that BioWare's critically acclaimed RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic will be remastered for Xbox One in 2016.

Neither BioWare or LucasArts have confirmed a remake is in the works but a reporter from Cinelinx claims to have heard from several sources that Knights of the Old Republic will be getting an overhaul to make it enjoyable for new and returning players. Supposedly, the remaster will be announced at the end of this year for a release in late 2016.

The rumour may have some traction to it, as there seems to be quite a lot of developer attention being cast upon the decade-old series. Knights of the Old Republic II recently got a big, official update on Steam and a mobile version of the game was released on Google Play back in April. This is further compounded by the allegations that Xbox reportedly sent a cease and desist order to non-profit Rum Runner Entertainment who were working on a fan-made remaster of the game which was due to be released in December 2014.

If the rumour is true, it could end up being a genius move on the part of Xbox boss Phil Spencer, who joked on Twitter last year about putting his vote in for a remaster of the long popular franchise.

Either way, this is definitely one story that we'll be keeping our eye on.
