I'm new around here I've been on push square for ages but just picked up an xbox one to go with my ps4
Loving the xbox so far! I know this is probably dumb and sorry if i've posted in the incorrect place!
My question is does games with gold work the same as ps plus? Can I only play them if i am subscribed to gold or do they lock out when your subscription ends? Can i put them in a download list and then be able to redownload whenever i feel like it? And can i put 360 games in my downloads on xbox one then when i buy a 360 will i be able to download them?
I hope that makes sence i can do all that stuff with ps plus just wondering if it's the same
Thank you in advance for all you helps ^^ muchly appreciated

....On the One they work the same as the PS4 - no sub, no game. On the 360 you can play them even when your sub expires which is where the confusion might have come from.
Can i put them in a download list and then be able to redownload whenever i feel like it?
....Yes - it remembers all the games you have downloaded and if you delete them you can re-download so long as you remain a gold member.
And can i put 360 games in my downloads on xbox one then when i buy a 360 will i be able to download them?
....No - but you can go on the xbox website and do just that there. Then you can download them when you get your 360. I often do that if I'm away on holiday and don't want to miss out on a good freebie!
@Midget_Sammi Check out cdkeys.com for the Gold, they tend to have cheap prices compared to MS and the high street. Also if you like them on Facebook, you will get a code for an extra 5% off.
I need to go back to D4, it was certainly crazy, but in a good and refreshing way. I seem to remember completely fluffing the first case as I exited the apartment before I'd gone through all the clues and stuff... didn't realise you couldn't just go back.... Kinect integration was pretty crap though I quickly ended up using just the pad. Think I need to start it again from the beginning as I can't remember to much now apart from a grotty bathroom and cat girl...
@Red620Ti That would be one cat that wouldn't get kicked out at night then
I have another question about Games with Gold. When you get Gold on Xbox One for the first time do you have access to all free Xbox One Gold games up to that point or only from that moment on? I know you only have access to those games as long as you are a member, but do you have to get a full year membership for getting access to those games or a shorter membership does work?
I really don't like the navigation bar of Nintendo Life continuously reappearing while browsing!!
@VanillaLake You can only get the games from the month you have your Gold, it doesn't back date. If you had Gold previously and downloaded the games, then you are good to go with those. You can get the games even if you only have a month Gold so far as I am aware.
@VanillaLake: You can only download games for free, the month they are available and IF you have a Gold membership, If you miss that opportunity for whatever reason - tough! If you only want 1 game in that month and can finish playing it that month, then a 1 month subscription may work for you. It is often more expensive per month to subscribe for the short term. It is possible though to access a trial membership (given away with some games), download the free games and finish them in that time - however if not and you want to continue playing, you have to renew your membership.
You do regain access to any games you were entitled to and downloaded IF you renew your membership. For example If I downloaded 'Sherlock Holmes' today and my Membership ended next week, I wouldn't be able to play Sherlock Holmes from next week. However if I renewed my membership the week after, even a month or two later, I regain access to Sherlock Holmes again and for any time that I have a Gold membership. Games you download through GwG remain playable to you as long as you have an active Gold membership - even if there is a break in that membership for whatever reason.
Free games are the only thing affected by the status of your Gold subscription (obviously not counting the online access) so anything bought that was discounted by your Gold membership via weekly sales etc are not affected - its the same as if you paid full price.
Its basically the same as PS+ as I noticed you asked the same question on PushSquare.
@crippyd: Thank you! @BAMozzy: You explained it perfectly. It's good that if you are playing a free game and your subscription expires you can renew it some time later and get all the games back. Yeah, I asked there because this is the first time I own a PS and Xbox though I've played them at friends' places before. The only difference I see, if I'm not wrong, is that on PlayStation you get access to all the games up to that point? The rest of rules seems to be identical.

@VanillaLake: There is NO difference between Gold and PS+ as far as Current gen consoles are concerned. You do not get access to games that have been offered in the past IF you did not download or add them to your 'library' at the time they were available and you can ONLY add them to your library IF you have an active PS+ account. If for example you don't get PS+ this month, you will never get 'Broforce' or any of the other games offered again without buying them yourself. Gold is exactly the same. If you don't get Gold this month, you will lose the opportunity to download Sherlock (for example) and of course the XB360 games too as they are Backwards Compatible.
What you can do with both PS+ and Gold is add all the games to your library/download queue IF you have an active membership, then if at any time in the future you get a XB360/PS3/Vita you can download the compatible games to that console after the allotted month but only if you still have an active membership on PS+ although with Gold, once you get a XB360 game, its yours forever - regardless of whether or not you have an active membership. For example if you get Borderlands this month and your membership runs out, you can still keep playing Borderlands and even redownload it to a XB360 to play. The only 'history' you get on either system, is the history you physically add at the time you have a membership. If you don't add these games when you have an active membership, you will NEVER be able to play these games unless you buy them. If your membership runs out, so will your access to these games but if you renew, you can access them again and download any games from YOUR history not the GwG/IGC History - the games you had access to before not any you didn't add or missed
Hope that makes sense.... Both Gold and PS+ are identical for this generation.
@BAMozzy: Thank you, yes, it is perfectly explained and helps a lot. But then, why does Sony call it "Instant collection" as if you were getting all the collection instantly? It's called that on a voucher I got with The Last of Us Remastered. I don't get it. The official information is very confusing.

@VanillaLake: I don't know why they opted for that name and the Xbox forum is maybe not the best place to discuss that. I guess the 'instant' part is the fact that as soon as you subscribe, you can 'instantly' add these monthly games and the 'collection' could refer to the fact that there is now '6' games (used to be 4 before PS4) on offer - 2 for each of Sony's Platforms. It could be because over the course of a years subscription, you have the potential to amass a games collection and therefore purchasing PS+ is adding an 'Instant Game Collection' that will build up over the course of the year without you having to purchase another game. IGC was named back when PS+ launched on PS3. The only reason to 'subscribe' then was for the monthly games - it wasn't/isn't required for online gaming on this platform. A years 'subscription' then was adding a Instant Game Collection - starting with 2 games that month and adding 2 more every month. If you just bought a PS3 and PS+, you have an instant collection of 2 games but by the end of the year, 24 games and assuming you keep renewing, you can build up a big collection of games to keep playing. PS+ has changed for the PS4 generation but the name hasn't.
Regardless of what its called and how its changed for current gen systems, Both Gold and PS+ are virtually identical and the way IGC and GwG games operate is identical too. You can ONLY access games that you download, add to your Library (PS) or Download queue (XB) which you can only do once you have an active membership. If you miss a game for whatever reason (like just forget to download, don't have an active membership etc) then tough. That opportunity to play for free has gone. If your membership runs out, you can no longer play these games until you renew. If you miss a month between renewal, those games will never be available to you for free. Games that were available before your subscription started will also never be available. Its the same for both GwG and PS+.
Like I said though, with both GwG and PS+, if you have an active membership, you can go to the respective websites and add games to your library/download queue. If in the future you opt to buy a console in the family, (in your case I assume that would be a PS3, Vita and/or XB360 - although you can play these on your XB1) you can then add those games from 'your' history. Lets say for example you add all 12 Vita games to your Library from 6months worth of PS+ and then buy a Vita - you instantly have access to those 12 games. If you add all XB360 games during your Gold membership and then buy a XB360, you can instantly download these games and play (regardless of your Gold subscription at the time because that's how GwG works for XB360) BUT only those you have added/downloaded.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

@BAMozzy: Very interesting the last part, I realise that it makes a lot of sense to add the Xbox 360 games anyway, because you can play those on Xbox One. I'll get Gold/Plus whenever I see a good deal, e.g., a discount for getting a Killer Instinct bundle or if I redeem the trial code and love playing online a particular game. I assume the demos are accessible to everybody regardless of having or not Gold/Plus? I haven't seen many demos to download, that's why I ask.

@VanillaLake: If I had to pick Gold or PS+ based purely on the games, I would pick Gold. Partly because on XB1 that gives me 4 games a month (inc 2 Backwards Compatible games) and the games offered appeal a lot more than the 2 'indie' offerings that PS4 seems to be getting every month. By shopping around (here is the cheapest I have seen at the moment @£28.68 - just £2.39 a month) you can get a good deal and considering you get 4 games, in one month you can get more than you paid for the year in value of games to play. If you don't want to buy 'both' memberships, you could use 1 console for online and exclusive games and the other for single player/solo and its exclusive games. Both are less than the cost of a AAA game each and if you buy 'digital' games can also save you that money back over the course of year in 'discounts'. By having both, you can play all aspects of all games. Some games (like the Division, Destiny, No Mans Sky) are purely online - even if you play these Solo, you still need a membership.
As far as Demo's go, there are a few I believe but not as many as there was last gen - at least that's how it seems to me. I don't tend to play Demo's myself or look for them, so I could be mistaken. I would guess though that most demos won'y require an online subscription but some may - like Destiny for example - not necessarily to download but to play. I know on the XB1, some F2P games require a membership (isn't KI F2P and requires a Gold membership? I don't know because I don't like fighting games)
Personally I have both PS+ and Gold. That way I can access all aspects of any game and access any freebies that appeal. It also means that I have more freedom to choose which games I buy and for what platform. Usually I buy a game based on any 3rd Party deals. Even though I disagree with this practice, it makes sense to pay the same amount and get more for my money or earlier access to content. These deals though are not aimed at me - especially not me with both console - or those with a next gen console. They are purely for marketing, to encourage those without a next gen console to consider getting that specific one and enables the manufacturer to use those games in its advertising. No one with a PS4 for example will buy an XB1 just to get the Divisions content early, No one with an XB1 will buy a PS4 just to get early access to Destiny's extra content for that year. Those of us with both, its still a win for the developers whichever console you choose to buy for as its still just 1 game sale. Therefore these deals are NOT arranged for the benefit of its user base but to be used as 'marketing' to encourage people to buy that specific brand. If you already have the console - of course you can benefit but that's not the primary reason these deals exist. By having both consoles and both memberships though, it does mean that you can take advantage of them rather than go without....

That makes sense, but it's not crazy having both, as you said it's not that much money for one year and if you play often you get some freebies and online gaming. I haven't made up my mind yet though, at the moment I'm busy with all those one player games I've been wanting to play for a long time (I still haven't played any Halo game nor any Uncharted game but I got both Master Chief Collection for Xbox One and The Nathan Drake Collection for PS4). No, Killer Instinct does not require Gold (for anyone reading).
EDIT: Thank you for the link. I think my first choice would actually be Gold rather than Plus but, anyway, where is cheaper Plus?
@VanillaLake: ElectronicFirst - £34.99 and CDKeys - £35.99 are usually the cheapest for memberships, top-ups etc. You can get an extra 5% off if you like CDKeys on facebook (although lately that seems to be just your first order). Often it seems that PS items are more expensive although not by much...
