It's the slim version btw.

keeps shutting off by itself after only running for a few seconds. I thought it might be my power brick was bad. I checked it out and discovered my power brick is a cheap third party one and the power indicator light was red all the time. Apparently that's a sign of a failing power supply.

So anyway i ordered the official Microsoft brick and it's still doing it. It's not the red ring of death either because it's not a ring. Just a single red dot after it shuts off. I know it's not dead because after several times trying to start it my xbox finally stayed running and i was playing it for over an hour last night.

Also it ejects the discs and sucks them right back in before i even have a chance to take out the disc.

Any idea what the hell is going on?

Have you tried plugging the power supply into a different outlet?

Yeah i did. I keep reading stuff about this red ring of death but what I'm seeing is not a ring. It's just a single red dot. It powers on and the menu displays on screen just fine. Then 5 seconds later it just shuts off like it lost power suddenly.

I replaced the power brick, tried different outlets and still it does the same. Last night it finally stayed running for a good hour after i kept turning it back on repeatedly.

I'm thinking maybe it's just really dusty and the fan might need a good cleaning or there's a problem with the faceplate. It can't be fried because i did have it running and staying on a while just yesterday.
