Topic: Variable Refresh Rate on LG OLED?

I have LG C9 and a Series X The C9 sets to game mode automatically and the Series X has the VRR feature ticked. I have been wondering for a while how do you know that your LG OLED TV is using VRR? I looked online but all I found is pressing the channel information "XBOX" with the Magic Remote and yes, it says the resolution, aspect ratio, Dolby... like pressing "info" on other remotes but nothing about VRR. Also found a site where people spam the green button but nothing happens. Gamers with an LG OLED TV, have you managed to know if VRR is on and working?

I have the LG OLED65C1PUB 2021 model. It has a "Game Optimizer" menu overlay that tells you a lot of info. Within it, the built-in AMD FreeSync (VRR) shows as active when applicable. As too any "proof" of it on and working, my guess is as good as yours.

@isturbo1984 Thanks for your reply. How exactly do you open the game optimiser menu?

Nice TV and size!

Not sure if any major differences between makes and models. assuming there is. but...
The "settings" button. On the main radial on the remote control, the one with the 'Gear' symbol. It opens up the settings when the a console isn't active. But when you press it while the Xbox is on, it will open up a completely new settings overplay called the "Game Optimizer." I hope this works with yours.

I have a CX and Xbox Series X. The way to tell if VRR is working is by first making sure you have Variable Refresh Rate enabled in Xbox settings and also Instant Game Response in the TV settings. Then, you just press the green button on the remote rapidly many times and it brings up a little menu that says the refresh rate and if VRR is active. If you have Xbox set to 4k 120hz, it will probably say 118hz or something all the time even for 30fps or 60fps games. It does change depending on the frame rate, like if it's 45 fps it should say 90hz in that little menu. Hope this helps.

@Royalblues I watched the video. It says that it's one of the most demanding games that exist and it runs at 30fps on Series X except for the Dreamliner cockpit and a few scenarios. It has a hidden unlocked frame rate mode if you select the 1440p resolution. They used your TV (CX) to check the refresh rate and it goes from 80 to over 100 but the C9 doesn't have that game menu and that unlocked mode presents some choppiness in spite of VRR for some reason. So I don't know how can I check VRR on my TV (C9)...

@Royalblues Not at all, I appreciate it 😊. 55". Yes it can do 120fps with Dolby Vision off but according to that video VRR is choppy in this game.

VRR introduces near-black flickering on these displays. It may not be noticeable in daytime but I almost guarantee you'll notice it. I have a CX and I need to keep VRR turned off because of it. Just google LG C-series VRR issues to see what I mean. LG has said it's a panel issue and there's no firmware to fix it. They attempted to introduce some near-black adjustment but it doesn't help me.

But I'm also blessed that I literally never notice screen-tearing and I'd rather have consistent color than black flickering.
