Topic: Playing the One and the X on the same account

I now have Series X and One consoles, and it seems like I should be able to play both at the same time under one Microsoft and Game Pass account. I know this was possible for years for people with multiple One consoles, and even have a friend with the same setup (a One and an X) and things are working fine for him.

I can play on either console OK, with full access to my Game Pass games on both, but the two consoles can't be played at the same time. It constantly flags "only one game can be played at a time." But there are help forum posts everywhere talking about 2 people should be able to play at once with the right settings, even multiplayer games against each other.

I've tried everything I can find to get this working and have gotten no where. The current setup looks like this:

  • Both consoles are logged in under different Gametags/different MSN emails
  • Both accounts are stored on both consoles
  • The One and Series X have both taken turns as the "Home XBox", but neither one makes things work properly
  • The main account is passkey locked, but the 2nd account is not

Just looking for some help on this so we can use them both together. Thanks!

Hmmmm this is interesting as I was going to give my Xbox One to my son when I got my series X.

@FraserG Do you happen to know anything about this?

Ok, I finally got this to work. What was screwing us up was the One console kept wanting to sign in my main/original Microsoft account every time it turned on. Every time, even when the new one was selected when asked "Who's playing?". It was treated both old and new accounts as "Signed In" at the same time, which I didn't even know was possible. In the end, this is how things eventually played out to work, start to finish:
.

I had an X-Box One for years

I just bought a Series X, and put the same Microsoft account info on it that's been on the One

We signed up for a new Microsoft account thru the One, and added it to the Series X as well (both accounts now on both consoles). It sounds like you can use an existing Microsoft account as well, but this is what worked here

I logged into the One under the original old account, and made the One my "Home XBox" in the settings

** This is actually counter intuitive, as the old console is the "Home" one, but that is definitely how to do it

We signed out of the old account on the One and logged back in under the new one

With the old/original account active on the Series X, and the new account signed in on the One, everything worked, and both consoles can play at the same time

.
Here is what was causing trouble at the end---for some reason the old account was staying Signed In on the One, even after we signed it out once or twice. Now that we're double-checking only one account is signed in on each console at a time, it works just fine.

@ChicagoAZ thanks for sharing. I thought that it might be possible to play on the same account on both consoles at the same time, just 1 have a capability to play online.
Now I have small issue, that while we have 1 console xbox one s, my Kids are using my account to play Lego games. This week series s Will arrive. I Will transfer all the games that I want to play to series s and external hdd. One S I Will keep for Kids and they Will have their Lego and other games. Now I have a question. Is there any chance to keep all their Lego game progress for them if they Will have a New account on the same xbox?

@Gipsons I don't think that would work. As I understand it, you can only be signed into one account at a time, and if you create a new account, all of the achievements (and save states and purchased games) stay with the original account. You could always give them the original account and start fresh yourself, but that's probably not something most would want to do.
