I have started code vein last night. I never played soulslike games (the closest would be darksiders 3 or hollow knight). So far it has been ok but let's see if I stick with it to the end...

I'm currently playing too many games to list since I have a bad habit of spreading myself too thin by playing too many games at once. It's something I'm trying to improve on. But here are some of the major games I'm playing now.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition: Writing the story of my definitive, personal canon Commander Shepard. I wish I could say that I'd done that by now when the game's been out since May and I purchased it on day one. Sadly, OCD has led to more than one restart. Still the best game trilogy ever.

Celeste: Finally decided to try it out through GamePass and I absolutely love it. I've finished 3 chapters so far and have been trying the Play Anywhere feature. It's awesome that I can play on my PC, then go play on my Series X later and pick up exactly where I left off.

Sonic Mania: For a game club that I'm part of. I purchased it off the Xbox Store even though I already own it on my Switch lol. Discussion on that one should be coming up soon so I need to hurry up and finish it.

I've also dabbled in The Ascent which I need to get back to, and I have Assassin's Creed Valhalla waiting in the wings.

So many games, so little time.

Still going on with code vein and after some hard time at start getting used to its mechanics I am enjoying quite a bit now. The first really hard boss kicked my arse hard for quite some time but as I leveled up and upgraded my gear quite a bit everything for the past few hours have been fairly manageable (including two more bosses)

Lately, I have been playing Gears of War for the first time. 1, 2, 3 and Judgement this far, on Series X. I believe that they are the most enjoyable shooters since Rare's Golden Eye 007, the latter is more stealthy, obviously. They have some Resident Evil vibes, brilliant campaigns and good scripts except Judgement (from People can Fly) that has an absolutely plain script and the gameplay is very Resident Evil The Mercenaries.

Last weekend, State of Decay 2. I have tried State of Decay 1 but gave it up. It's amazing how much SoD 2 has been improved and expanded since launch and it runs like a dream on Series X. This zombie apocalypse simulator-builder game is better than ever now.

Today, one hour into Night In the Woods, it seems like one of those boring internet forum conversations to me. The only surprise was the Guitar Hero events but with a controller it's kind of clunky. I don't know if the game will get more interesting, it doesn't seem so.

@BlueOcean i have been played State of Decay 2 recently and its a brilliant game! I quite enjoyed the first one but the sequel really is excellent.

@Beagle The problem with the first one is that it's not technically smooth and the tutorials and menus are very poor so all of my crew died after a while but I'm totally addicted to State of Decay 2 now, and it got the State of Decay 1 map, right? The game looks gorgeous and runs smoothly on Series X. A gem.

@BlueOcean yeah, I played the first one at launch on tye 360. I enjoyed it but personally really struggled with the fact that things would happen even when you weren't playing. So I would switch the 360 pn and find that Zombies had attacked, destroyed the defences I had built and all my food was gone! There was no way to switch this off at the time and it was quite frustrating. 2 is a huge improvement, especially after all the work they have put into it.

And I am now at the final boss of code vein (only tried it once so not sure if it is way more difficult than the rest). I am really enjoying this game and considering if I should give a try at dark souls next... But not sure as one reason I enjoy this one is because you allways have a companion with you that helps in distracting the bosses when you need to heal ir to give a devastating blow from the back and therefore it may be hard to go all alone... I could do with the game coming to GP though

@Beagle I didn't know that about SoD1! Yes they have put a lot of work into the sequel. Great game!

Started Raji: An Ancient Epic (on Game Pass) at the weekend and really enjoying it so far - decent action adventure game with a bit of light platforming and a few puzzle elements in there too. The game is set in India and it's quite interesting how they've interweaved Hindu lore (I think its Hindu - apologies if it's not!) into the story.

The combat felt a little clunky at the start, but seems to have improved a little as the game goes on to a point where I actually quite like it now. I mean, it's not Arkham Asylum good, but decent enough.

My only other minor grip is the camera which can sometimes feel like its zoomed out too far on some sections so for those of us that don't play on a giant TV the action on screen can look a bit small. Certain camera angles also make some of the platforming sections difficult to judge but doesn't happen enough for it to be a big issue.

Quite a short game too; I'm about 5 hours in I think, but feels like I'm near the end. Quick check on HLTB suggests I'm already slightly over the average of 4.5 so must be pretty close.

Finished code vein the other day (really really liked it but not that I want to go for extra challenges on DLC lol) and have now started ME andromeda and have to say so far I am enjoying it quite a bit. I like that the setting is very different from the trilogy. I have just got to the point where I have one colony so I don't know if it gets to be more of the same from now on though...

Turns out I wasn't just close to finishing - I actually was finished Raji. I defeated a boss and suspended the game right at the end of the battle before it could go any further because I had other stuff to do and resumed last night only to be met with a short cut scene and then the credits rolled - apparently that was the last boss. It didn't really feel like a final boss though - I was almost expecting a second battle to start but never did. Oh well, onto the next game I suppose.

Next random GP game is...Katana Zero. Actually one I probably would've ended up buying if it weren't on Game Pass so hopefully its as good as it looks.
