Guys,

I have tried everything and hope there is someone on here that can help!

3 months ago I bought my son the Series X with a digital download of Forza Horizon 5, created him an email address and Xbox profile and downloaded the game using the pass key provided within the bundle.

However it soon became apparent every time he wanted to play a game I had to provide permission via my phone because he was under 18 and it must have been one of the control measures set up. So after 2 days, we decided to create another account for him with a new email address and gamer tag, deleting the old one from the console.

He didn't play Forza for a while and last week he tried to play it and got the message "Log in with the correct profile to play Forza". Unfortunately after days of trying to remember what email address and gamer tag we used to download the digital copy we contacted Xbox user support. They went through various email addresses with me to identify if a gamer tag was linked to it and ultimately, because I cannot remember the email address or the gamer tag used to down load the game they cannot help me. I don't have the digital pass key because when we downloaded it we threw it away with the box.

In a last ditch attempt I deleted the game hoping we could just reinstall it however as we are not using the correct gamer tag, we cannot reinstall it, even though the game is shown within the settings as "Games included with this console".

I understand there are various measures in place to stop people claiming downloads that don't belong to them, however there must be a way to retrieve this game, I got it as part of the bundle and to buy it again would be £80+.

Please can you all have a think and try to help resolve this, it can't only be us that have had this problem?

Well, sadly to say since you can't remember that email or gamertag, the only solution is purchasing the game again under your new account.

Unfortunately, digital games are tied to the Gamertag and associated email. It sounded like you contacted MS but they couldn't retrieve your info, Unfortunately, they are the only ones that can if you remember your info. Even if you had the code, you wouldn't be able to use it again on a different account.

Forza Horizon 5 does go on sale alot so if you don't want to pay the full amount keep your eyes on the sales on the MS Store. Also if you just want a Forza Horizon game, you can always look into the older ones especially at used game stores as all Forza Horizon games run on Xbox Series X. I got a copy of Forza Horizon 2 for $20 from a used gaming store a few years ago.

I know that's not the answer you wanted to hear but without knowing your information, there's not much anyone can do.

@Adaaam75 Buying Digital locks the Licence to your Account meaning that ONLY the account holder can access the Game and/or the download if 'deleted'. Therefore you would NEED that account to play and/or re-download because you redeemed that code on that account.

If you buy on Disc, you need to keep the Disc to 'verify' you still own a valid license to play the game. You don't play the Game from the Disc, that is just there to hold the License and/or 'deliver' the Software to your Hard Drive. The game is installed and runs from your internal Storage and the 'disc' is only required to 'access' the game as 'proof' you still own a valid licence to play - hence if you try to play games you bought on disc, you must put the disc in even though the 'game' is now on your Console.

Digital Licences are 'locked' to the account holder and 'downloading' is just the 'delivery' method to get the Software onto your Hardware. Without signing into your account, those games are 'useless' because the 'Licence' you bought to play that game is 'locked' to your account.

If you lose access to your account, you 'lose' access to your Digital Library as they are 'locked' to that account. Its not like Physical where you can use the Disc as your Licence, your 'key' to playing as your 'key' to playing is locked to the account you created and redeemed that code on. As far as I know, the ONLY way to regain access is to try and recover your account - which you have tried. It may well still say it was 'included' with the console, but you 'redeemed' that already on an account - so you either 'need' that Account OR you'll need to buy again.

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

Yep,

That all makes sense and as expected. I was hoping there was a gem of an answer but alas, I will continue to try and identify the email address we originally used to create the first account as there is no way we'll remember the gamer tag.

Thanks anyway guys, I might have to bite the bullet and buy the game, much to my wife's discontent!

Don't give up yet!! I don't know if this will help or not, but do you at least remember the email service provider? Like was it gmail, or hotmail, or yahoo etc? If it was one of the more common email providers than most likely you had to use a cell phone number to create the account. As long as you didn't like use a burner phone and make up stuff like your birthday etc, try to get in contact with the provider.
Using your phone number and some of your personal info, you may be able to recover your old email. Once you're able to recover your old email, its only a few extra steps to recover your Xbox gamertag. And once you get that, you can redownload the game.

Like I said, I'm not completely sure this will work, but it wouldn't hurt to try. Best of luck! ( ^_^)/

@Utena-mobile This is exactly why I joined this site and posed the question!

I will look into this and let you know how I got on because the email provider is Outlook and therefore I have some digging to do!

Thanks again
