The First Reviews Are Going Live For Starfield's Terran Armada Expansion

In addition to the big free update called "Free Lanes" that's arrived for Starfield today, the game has also received a brand-new paid expansion known as "Terran Armada" — but is it worth buying?

Well, the first few reviews have just started going live for Terran Armada, with some of them embedded into reviews for the PS5 version of Starfield in general. It's also worth keeping an eye on the Steam page for Terran Armada over the next few hours, as the first user reviews will start appearing on there throughout the day.

Here are some of the first professional reviews we've found for Starfield Terran Armada so far:

VICE (Very Positive)

"Without getting into story spoilers, the new Starfield Terran Armada DLC is worth the price of admission alone. For players who have already beaten the game, it now gives you an endgame mode that puts all of your skills to the test. For new players, while it’s recommended that you level up, you can technically jump into the DLC fairly early on. As a result, it adds an interesting dynamic to the game’s overall worldbuilding. My jaw actually dropped the first time I encountered an Incursion. The sheer scale of the expansion’s new space battle feature is stunning. So even if you’ve already beaten Starfield, the update is worth experiencing."

GamingBolt (7/10)

"Since Starfield launched in 2023, many have hoped for significant overhauls to allow the game to fulfil its potential and make good on all of its lofty pre launch promises, and though Terran Armada is definitely not that (even with all of the improvements that come with the Free Lanes update), it is, at the very least, a solid additional chunk of more of the same. That means that it’s unlikely to capture those who weren’t enamoured by Starfield’s base or post launch offerings, but if you are like me and have found plenty of enjoyment in the space faring RPG’s vast expanses, it’s safe to say that you’ll find enough to like about the Terran Armada expansion, even if it doesn’t fully stick the landing with all of the things that it tries."

The Outerhaven (Positive)

"A bit of frustration for those who already own Starfield on Xbox or PC and are looking to play on the PlayStation 5, the game does not support cross-saves, I had to start with a new game save. Due to this I have only scratched the surface of the Terran Armada expansion so far. What I can say, however, is that I have found it immediately more engaging than Shattered Space. One thing that helps it stand out is its stronger focus on ship combat and spending more time in space itself. I am excited to continue its story and see where it goes."

RPG Site (Positive)

"I haven't played the Shattered Space DLC yet so I didn't want to finish Terran Armada's story, but I initiated the quest early on (despite the Level 50 recommendation) and it starts out strong by not only getting me interested based on the initial radio announcement, but also how it weaves in the Free Lanes cruise mode as a part of the quest right from the get go. It very much feels like a new quest line built on top of the current Starfield rather than something leftover that was brought to pad in a new update and platform release. I'll have more to say about the story quest when I complete both DLC packs in the future."

As you can see, it's still very early days here in terms of reviews and impressions for Terran Armada, but the feedback has been mostly positive so far. It's going to be interesting to see what the fans make of it over the next few days!

If you're interested in checking out Terran Armada, it's now available on the Xbox Store at a price of £8.79 / $9.99, and you'll also get it for free if you already own the Premium Edition or Premium Upgrade for Starfield.
