@Oval_Griffin No, it's not. As long as you have an active, legally paid Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass Ultimate membership, then these games are yours to claim for free.

@ThanosReXXX How do you know for sure?

The person on official Xbox customer support "a fellow Xbox gamer" told me twice not to do it. He said it puts my account at risk, its gaming the system and he said thats a 110% definitive answer.

@Oval_Griffin Because that's clearly just another member, a gamer just like you and me, not someone of Microsoft or the Xbox team themselves, so they have no authority on the matter whatsoever. I trust the reporters from PureXbox, and if there were ANY kind of serious risks to your account involved, then they would either not make such an article, or they'd put in a MASSIVE disclaimer, which they haven't really done, other than mentioning the obligatory "However, we must advise to do this at your own risk", right after telling you how easy it is to grab these games, so that already ought to tell you more than enough.

Besides that, I've grabbed dozens of games from all kinds of Xbox sites across the globe, ever since I owned my first Xbox 360, and I've NEVER run into any problems because of it.

So, in short, there is no supposed "110% definitive answer" concerning it damaging your account in any way, that's just scare tactics or someone wanting to feel important or whatever other kind of dumb motivation. Sadly enough, people like that exist, but you should pay them no mind.

As mentioned, PureXbox's reporters wouldn't point this out to us if it would be that harmful, so if I were you, I'd grab all of them while you can. In fact, I just did, at least: the ones that I didn't own already, and I had no problem whatsoever getting them for free and downloading and installing them.

On a side note: perhaps we should drag the writer of the article, @FraserG in here as well, seeing as he might be able to add some of his own thoughts on the matter, as well as some actual facts on how this all works.

@ThanosReXXX Thanks especially about since your first Xbox 360 experience.

I am still looking for responses from other users here.

Hello! The article advises to claim these games "at your own risk" as Microsoft has never (as far as we know) talked about this method of claiming Games with Gold across various regions.

The reason we made the article is because these regional Games with Gold are commonly shared across social media and the web every month and have been for a long time - and Microsoft has never chosen to apply a region-lock to the GwG program.

If you're in doubt though, don't do it! We just wanted to pass the message on considering they're freely accessible to everyone.

@FraserG Hm.

It would be nice if you would reach out to Microsoft for official advice.

I am sure you and your co-workers can get a more definitive response from Microsoft than I was able to.
