@MaccaMUFC I have the QD-OLED and its still holding up perfectly well - it still 'looks' like new to me and the Colour is so 'rich'. I watch Footy and F1 in HDR on Sky and the colour is just incredible. I'm using mine at least 12hours a day and some of that is gaming in HDR too - which I have set up for 120hz VRR mode so gaming feels and looks amazing.
I can't say how well it will hold up with Reflections, I don't have any windows or light sources directly opposite my TV but I would likely prefer 'elevated' blacks to having a window reflection blocking out everything below. I guess it depends on you - but diffusing the light makes it seem as though the TV has a PQ issue where as when you clearly see a reflection, its not a PQ issue.
Vincent Teoh had a demo up with his filming light umbrella and shining at a Samsung and LG - the LG had a big 'white' Umbrella shape but couldn't see ANY of the image (or colours) below because of the reflected light, where as the Samsung looked like light was bleeding through the Black but could still see the entire image clearly.
I don't suffer from Reflections due to the way my room is laid out. I have a Window on the same wall my TV is on and another at 90 degrees to that wall. Daytime viewing is excellent, I don't notice if the Blacks are 'slightly' raised due to more Ambient light in the room - it still 'looks' jet black to me. So in my time of ownership, I couldn't be happier and have never had/noticed issues due to the Matte Anti-reflective coating on the screen.
Its gone through a couple of Screen Wash cycles as I leave that set to its default maintenance programme and if it lasts me another couple of years, I think the quality - inc as a quality Gaming Display, I wouldn't hesitate in buying another - although I'd hope MiniLED is affordable and viable by the time I need to replace...
@BAMozzy If micro LED TVs are affordable and available in smaller sizes from 65” by the time I need to replace the QN95C then I’ll buy one but if not then the QD-OLED will be my next purchase. If reflection is an issue I’ll just close the blinds and curtains if it’s that bad.
I don’t really care for 120hz but it’s not required to enable VRR is it? I’ve only used it when wanting to make use of balance mode to get 40fps in certain games but when I do have 120hz enabled I get this screen flicker, it’s subtle but still quite noticeable and annoying.
I’ve seen in an Xbox Ally article on this site that you’ve pre-ordered the Xbox Ally X, I’m interested in getting one some day but do you know if you can dock the handheld to the tv? I’d like to play some Steam games on my tv rather than on the 7” screen. I’d see it an alternative to buying a gaming PC/Laptop while also having the benefit of it being portable. I do think it’s very expensive but it’s an impressive handheld from everything I’ve seen and read about it.
@MaccaMUFC yeah - as I said, IF MicroLED are available when my QD-OLED does eventually wear out or stop working. My point is that I'm happy with QD-OLEDs but hope it lasts long enough that MicroLEDs are now available.
In theory, 120hz isn't required, but it obviously has advantages over 60hz. You can't do 40hz for example as the range is 48fps-60fps - but 40fps fits perfectly into a 120hz. My TV doesn't flicker so I don't notice any issues - no screen tear or frame rate judder from drops. Actually my panel is capable of 144hz but for Consoles, 120hz is perfect.
You can dock the RoG Ally to a TV and connect a Controller to it so you can use it on the Big Screen - the simplest way is with the USB to HDMI cable - but you can also buy eGPU Docks with upto RTX 5090 Laptop GPU's built in to boost performance/graphics for the Big screen if you want higher quality performance.
In terms of cost, I'd compare it with other full windows devices - either Handheld, Laptop or Desktop. Steamdeck is a Steam device and unless you install windows, limits you to Steam - no Game Pass access (unless you stream via Steam's Browser) or Play Anywhere games. In terms of comparable 'Hardware' with the Z2E chip, the Xbox Ally X is cheaper than MSi or Lenovo equivalents. Its also a lot easier to play on the go anywhere than a Laptop. I doubt I'll buy an eGPU 'dock' for my Ally - I have a gaming Laptop and if I am gaming on my TV, I'm using a Console. The reason I'm buying is for the times I'm not able to game on my TV.
A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!
Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
