To be honest, I don't think that is a major issue. It was a 'loophole' that people were exploiting by buying as much Gold Subscriptions as possible and then paying '$1/£1' on the 'introductory' Game Pass and getting many, many months of GPU for essentially nothing.
You can't really take that away from those who 'abused' the way it was, but that no doubt contributed to the Changes - potentially even the 'price' increase too. With them potentially re-introducing the £1/$1 introductory offer, it makes sense to ensure that it can't be abused. 36months of 'Gold' being converted to 1yr of GPU for $1 is 'fair'.
I don't think that the price Rise - an extra £1 a month or £12 a year - is 'unreasonable' after 5-6yrs and considering how much more 'potential' it has, what it offers etc. Of course its 'relative', but as Games have also gone up, the 'value' of GP increases. 3 AAA games now cost $210 but a few years ago, that would have cost upto $180 so the increase is 'less' than half the Difference between 3 AAA games from a few years ago to this year...
I believe Sony too convert PS+ 'Essential' to 'Extra' or 'Premium' too at a 'Cost' to the Consumer and don't convert 1:1 either so I think its 'fair' enough...

@GADG3Tx87 thanks for the heads up! I will continue to use this loop hole for as long as they leave it open. I have a year or so to go so things may have changed by the time it’s next time for me to do again.
They are well aware of this loop hole, I mean they just adjusted it without taking it away, and they would take it down if it was a problem. It’s probably only a tiny percentage of gamepass customers who even realise it’s an option anyway.
@GADG3Tx87 I'm not sure if it's just mine, or a temporary glitch, or permanent change but I noticed a few changes in the Xbox Rewards app this morning
1. There also isn't currently an option to redeem Xbox Game Pass through MS rewards anymore (I checked this on PC too, not there either)
2. There was no auto-renew for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (which was previously 10,500 points)
It's possible these aren't showing on mine as my account is maxed out at 3 years, but it's always appeared in the past. Is this showing for you?
Gold was previously the best option anyway 3 months Golf converted to 50 days GPU but i'm not sure if that has now changed too.
As I said i'm not sure if this is a temporary glitch, a permanent change or just on mine but they have certainly removed a lot of ways of getting Game Pass cheaper over the last few years, hoping this isn't another.
UPDATE: thinking about it logically they are probably just updating the price (in terms of rewards points) of these with the monetary price increase of game pass. Though why that needs taking them down altogether is beyond me. Should be as simple as changing one value in a database and double/triple checking it, but their backend always seems needlessly convoluted.
I have mine stacked until June 2025, what ever deal is around in 2 years time I will take and investigate.
This isn't the a massive issue, as this stacking of gold then upgrade to Ultimate is handy and fantastic, but I don't think it will last forever. I think it's less conversion months now. But regardless it's still a great deal. I will be interested to see what is happening with this in June 2025!
