Hi... I don't have my own XBox, but I bought an XBox-Series S for my nephews a couple of Christmases ago. Aged 8 and 12, they both love "gaming". Lots of focus on Minecraft, Fortnight and Portal(2).
I am considering buying a 'game pass' this year... I am not very clued-up about 202x games. A 12 month "Game Pass Ultimate" has been suggested to me. Before making the purchase, I discovered big discounts if I buy an "account" rather than an code to use with an existing account... but I wouldn't want to interfere with any parental controls that might be set up on any existing account. Next I discovered that "Call of Duty - Black Ops 7" was among the games included with "Game Pass Ultimate". I am not paranoid about exposure to adult material in games - but, my impression is that inclusion of Call-Of-Duty could represent a problem (as could Grand-Theft-Auto - for similar reasons) especially if my nephews thought these games are a significant part of one of their Christmas presents in 2025. I'm extremely badly informed about games from this century... so hope I can ask for advice here.
Would my requirements be better served by a different "Game Pass" variant? Am I faced with the reality that if I gift a 12 month Game-Pass subscription... that I'm giving 18-rated games to minors?
I came across this older discussion and wanted to add that Game Pass has added a bunch of solid family-friendly picks lately. Stuff like Minecraft Legends, Ori, and Disney Dreamlight Valley work well for younger players, and the content filters on Xbox can help tighten things up even more. Curious what others are letting their kids play these days or if anyone found new favorites since this thread started.
