Been gaming since the NES days (or playing some Atari at a friend's house on occasion), so been a journey for me as others here similarly shared.
I've always been more of a Nintendo guy, but getting the PS1 back in the day was some of the most memorable gaming experiences I had growing up as during that era I was mostly playing JRPGs.
Got a PS2 back in the day, but that unfortunately got stolen - pretty much after that happened, I stopped gaming for a while up until after college and getting my first full-time job.
Jumped into Xbox via the 360 era. Along with the Wii, it was the perfect combo. Didn't get back into PlayStation until 2012-13 after picking up a Vita (which I still have to this day). Loved it a lot, so picked up a PS3 (SuperSlim) which I still have hooked up (alongside my Wii U).
As of today, my wife, and kids each have their own Switch consoles (I'm rocking the OLED model). Upgraded to PS5 Pro with disc drive. Have a Series S but waiting for the 2TB Galaxy Black to come next year (as it's backordered it seems from MS store).
Nowadays, personal gaming time is a luxury, but I always try to play games me and my kids can enjoy together (a reason why Gamepass is great try out "family games" without buying the copy upfront). For example, we enjoyed "Little Kitty, Big City" together this past evening (while the family cat watched).
Grew up on ps1/ps2 but then switched to Pick up Xbox 360 was a great gaming time for me. Oblivion and gears just blew me away and sucked me back into gaming…Followed achievements on 360 and then upgraded to Xbox one but then switched as friends at time did to ps4. Had some time on that but came back about 2 years now for Xbox xs. Best decision. Although last of us 1 remains in prob my top 5 there is just something about Xbox I prefer. Coming back to have game pass had been amazing as I’ve tested games I may have missed and enjoyed getting back on the achievement grind.
I was an Xbox 360 owner and to this day I rate it has my most favourite console generation to date. Even though I was in my late 20's, it's when I stopped partying and really got into gaming big time. Man. The games available for that machine were incredible.
Then they made a hash of the Xbox ONE and I held off and stayed on 360. Then around 2017 is when I decided to try the PS4 and yet again, a great gaming generation. It got to 2023 and that's when I stopped gaming. I do miss it a lot, but financial priorities for restarting life have taken over and so will be a while before I get back into gaming I would imagine. But rather than going to the PS5, I was thinking I may try to get a Series X. Play the games of the past and all those X-One and exclusives since that I missed out on.
I was always a "console" lover. Of course I tried PC games and they add so much more on PC (= MODS).
I collected consoles for more than 40 years and for me , it's only the "experience / the game" which is important. I still don't understand why Sony sold more consoles than Microsoft.
Xbox tried VERY HARD to push new IP, new indie studios, etc.
On PS5 / PRO we have... tada.... Remastered version of PS4 games !! And this is a genius move ? NOPE.
I'm pretty sad for Microsoft , but and the end, launching games even on competitors console was the right call.
I was expecting some nice sequels of Sony's IP such as Wipeout, Gravity rush, the last guardian and...
Sony closed down Japan Studio !! Stupid Sony !!
Now I'm looking at Valve and , who knows , maybe a valve console , one day ???
i'm not a fan of handheld consoles....
