Talking Point: So, Did You End Up Pre-Ordering An ROG Xbox Ally?

After weeks and weeks of hanging on for more news from Microsoft, the team finally opened up pre-orders for its pair of ROG Xbox Ally devices last week, revealing its pricing model for multiple regions around the globe. So, the question is, did you end up pre-ordering one when they finally became available?

Well, we say "when they finally became available" quite loosely, to be honest. Pre-orders opened up at a very strange time for certain regions (in the middle of the night here in the UK), and we've already seen multiple retailers run out of stock here, particularly for the more powerful ROG Xbox Ally X device. That seems to be the one folks are going for at the minute!

Having said that, pricing seems to be a particular sore point right now, especially for the more powerful of the two devices. Almost $1000 is a mighty big ask in the current climate, and we're seeing folks refer back to Phil Spencer's 2024 comments about not growing the market with $1000 consoles. Still, that's the one that's selling out at the moment so we'll have to see how it all pans out!

Of course, ROG Xbox Ally probably doesn't exist to 'grow the market'; these handheld PCs are more a new option rather than anything comparable to a traditional console generation. They seem to be for the enthusiast right now, which is why we want to see if our enthusiastic Pure Xbox readership has been tempted into picking one up yet!
