Talking Point: Do You Still Get Excited About Remakes On Xbox In 2026?

Each and every year, hundreds of new games are thrown at us on Xbox, and we're almost always down to experience something brand-new in the gaming world. However, in recent years, remakes have seemingly become increasingly common on the platform - especially for some of these massive franchises that now have longer and longer development times.

Insert Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced. The upcoming Ubisoft remake was finally revealed this week, and we've got to admit that we're pretty excited about it. Even as a series that still gets regular releases, Black Flag had such a unique vibe that we're really keen to re-experience it with some modern tweaks. The ill-fated Skull and Bones certainly didn't scratch that pirate adventure itch.

With our excitement around the Black Flag remake pretty high, then, we want to know you feel about that project - and indeed how you feel about remakes in general on Xbox. Does something like this still excite you in 2026? Are you done with this sort of thing and more than happy to go back and play the originals if and when you want to?

Another thing worth mentioning with all of this is that, as the generations go on and backwards compatibility becomes more robust, it really is quite easy to go back and play the older versions of some of these games that get remade. Black Flag was a launch-era Xbox One game, and is still totally playable on modern Xbox hardware. That definitely helps make a compelling argument for skipping the remake!
