After plenty of rumours, speculation and even a cheeky mention from Ubisoft itself earlier this week, the company has properly unveiled Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced; a new "from the ground up" remake of 2013's Assassin's Creed 4.
This new version, which you can take a look at via the game overview trailer up above, brings back everything you know and love about the original Black Flag - with added "high resolution textures", "enhanced lighting", improvements to the combat system to make battles "faster & more fluid", and lots more besides.
Despite changes to improve and modernise the original experience, Ubisoft is keen to remind folks that this is still a "character-driven experience" and not an RPG, akin to more modern games in the franchise. It sounds as though remaking this beloved AC game has been a balancing act for the team.
This is what game director Richard Knight had to say on the project:
"Assassin's Creed: Black Resynced matters deeply to us and to you. That's why we took the time to rebuild it with the care it deserves. This remains a solo adventure and character-driven experience. It is not an RPG."
The original AC: Black Flag took players on a Caribbean adventure at the start of the Xbox One generation, complete with island-hopping exploration, ship battles and plentiful plundering. All of that looks to be here and present in the remake, complete with expanded mechanics and fresh improvements as detailed above.
Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced brings its "faithful" remake to Xbox Series X|S on July 9th, 2026.
