So, things have changed since we first published this article! Rockstar Games revealed that an "issue" was preventing the free upgrade from the Xbox 360 to Xbox Series X|S version, confirming that it was being worked on with Microsoft:

That's not everyone though! There are still people who have yet to get the upgrade, hopefully because Rockstar and Microsoft are still working on the rollout. In the meantime, we've ditched the original outdated poll from this article and turned it into a "Talking Point" so you can let us know whether it's worked correctly for you or not.

Original Story: It's no secret that today's Red Dead Redemption rollout hasn't exactly gone to plan, at least on Xbox. The game went live at midnight local time as was somewhat expected, but Rockstar's free upgrade path isn't working in the way folks expected right now - and we haven't had any official updates from the team on the whole situation just yet.

However, now that the game has been live for the majority of its launch day, we want to check in on how the whole upgrade path has gone on your end. Did you get the free upgrade and are confused about all the drama that's going on? Or, has this upgrade path not worked for you either?

If you're curious about what's going on here - basically, before release, Rockstar stated that existing backwards compatible owners of RDR would get the new Xbox Series X|S version for free at launch. However, what appears to be the majority of 360 edition owners aren't getting this free upgrade, with only a select few getting in without having to pay.

Here at the PX offices, those of us who indeed owned the old 360 version haven't been to get in for free; we used a GTA+ subscription to provide you with some early hands-on coverage. There's also that 50% discount if any of us want to get the game for keeps as things stand - but yep, we haven't been able to redeem any sort of free upgrade over here from the old version.
