Prey (Xbox One)

Let's bring another Bethesda game back into the mix! 2017's Prey was a fantastic addition from the excellent Arkane Studios, again taking the form of a sci-fi thriller in which you awaken aboard a space station overrun with hostile aliens. The best bit about this game if you're playing on Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S is that it now runs at 60FPS thanks to FPS Boost, and of course anyone can play it as part of Xbox Game Pass as well.

The Outer Worlds (Xbox One)

We've asked a few of our staff members to pick some 'games like Starfield' for this list, and Obsidian's The Outer Worlds has cropped up a couple of times. This superb single-player RPG is getting a sequel that's coming day one to Xbox Game Pass, but you can also play the original on the service right now! It's another sci-fi game, naturally, and the player-driven focus means that the story unfolds based on the decisions you make.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw (Xbox One)

If you're looking for a game like Starfield that you perhaps haven't heard of before, maybe look into giving Rebel Galaxy Outlaw a try. It's an open-world space combat adventure game that launched on Xbox back in 2020, and it allows you to play as a mercenary, a trader or a pirate as you progress through an engaging storyline. The game has a Metacritic score of 77 for PC, and mostly positive reviews for Xbox (although there aren't many of them!).

Astroneer (Xbox One)

Astroneer feels like one of those Xbox Game Pass games that often goes overlooked, even though it's actually really good! It's described as a "space sandbox" adventure in which your creativity is the key to getting the most out of it. You can build vehicles to explore the universe (in fact you can build pretty much anything you wish!), create fun games, and enjoy it all with friends in four-player online drop-in or drop-out co-op. Worth a try!

Outer Wilds (Xbox One)

Not to be confused with The Outer Worlds (you wouldn't be the first), Outer Wilds is an equally impressive open world mystery game in which you play as the newest recruit of a fledgling space program, with the story centred around a solar system trapped in an endless time loop. Everyone was a bit taken aback by how fantastic this game ended up being, so this is definitely on our recommendations list for a great game like Starfield on Xbox.
