10 Games Like Starfield To Keep You Busy Until Next Year

Listen, we were all disappointed when Xbox and Bethesda announced that Starfield was being delayed to 2023, but fingers crossed it'll be worth the wait when it finally arrives next year. In the meantime, there are plenty of games like Starfield on Xbox to keep you busy, and we've listed just a handful (or two) of our favourites in this article!

The following games are similar to Starfield primarily because they're set in space. However, we've also thrown in Skyrim because... well, it's probably the closest experience to Starfield you can get right now!

So, without further ado, here are some games like Starfield to keep you busy on Xbox:

No Man's Sky (Xbox One)

Release Date: 24th Jul 2018 (USA)

If you're looking for a game like Starfield to play on Xbox Game Pass, most people are going to turn to No Man's Sky as an obvious comparison. This is a fantastic exploration and survival game in which the procedurally generated universe means there's literally no end to where you can go. The game continues to receive massive updates to this day, so if you still haven't tried No Man's Sky yet, now's a perfect time to jump in.

Release Date: 25th Jun 2020 (USA)

Keeping with the space theme (most of this list is centred around games set in space to be fair!), Observation is a sci-fi thriller which used to be on Xbox Game Pass, but unfortunately has since been removed. Still, it's worth picking up if you like a compelling storyline-driven game, and it feels quite unique compared to anything else out there, as instead of controlling one of the astronauts, you instead control the space station's AI.

Publisher: Bethesda Game Studios / Developer: Bethesda Softworks
Release Date: 28th Oct 2016 (USA) / 28th Oct 2016 (UK/EU)

What can we say about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that hasn't already been said? Bethesda's Todd Howard has already described Starfield as "Skyrim in space", so that pretty much tells you everything you need to know. Skyrim might have a different setting, and it's definitely quite an old game at this point, but it's probably the best game 'like Starfield' you can play at the moment. A great excuse to revisit it before Starfield drops in 2023!

Publisher: Frontier Developments / Developer: Frontier Developments
Release Date: 6th Oct 2015 (USA) / 6th Oct 2015 (UK/EU)

Elite Dangerous is one of those 'love it or hate it' type of games, but if you like the idea of getting really immersed in a massively multiplayer space epic, you should definitely at least give it a try. It's a game like Starfield because of the space exploration and combat element, but keep in mind that it requires you put in a considerable number of hours in order to get really comfortable with its mechanics. If you dig it, we think you'll spend AGES here.

Publisher: Electronic Arts / Developer: BioWare
Release Date: 14th May 2021 (UK/EU)

When thinking of games like Starfield, Mass Effect Legendary Edition comes to mind. After all, it's one of the best sci-fi trilogies of all time, and the Legendary Edition does a commendable job of bringing the three games up to date for the modern era. Thanks to EA Play, you can play this one at no extra charge if you're an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member, and they're all sizable enough games that they'll keep you busy until Starfield rolls around.
