Re: Video Game Retailer Urges Xbox To 'Stand Behind Consumer Choice' By Supporting Physical

@dkxcalibur I don't disagree. There are no good options here but basically industry as a whole has moved from full games being on discs without patching the hell out of them. Boils down to, essentially, they take 1.5 months to print and ship, so devs just "publish" a late beta continue development until the launch date and then do a day one patch, Nintendo is the exception with games launching without day one patches often, this because they were sitting on the finished code for months, the rest of the industry won't do that.

Anyway, game key cards is something I don't live but seems to be viable as the game key is physical but needs a download to run. With the current crisis it doesn't increase costs. Other way would be mini discs like GameCube. As at this point you only need the "authorization code" not huge discs filled with data.

This should be followed by the servers to download them being online forever of course. But for now, even on the wii, dsiware, x360, wii u, 3ds and other discontinued services you van still download the games you bought, so if the keys were digital it's a matter of you veing able to redownload.

On another note, microsoft actually has a good track record here. They delist forza games but all the dlc and the games keep being downloadable. They just dropped the ball in regards to backward compatibility of forza 1 to 4, sadly.

This is a present with poison for Microsoft. This gen they're already partially digital and I doubt they'll reverse it. They were the first to do a home console without a physical option too.

The way to go will be game carts like nintendo as data on a chip will not be obsolete anytime soon, and it's portable/uses no energy spinning out.

Otherwise for physical, they can do one more generation with blurays but then that gen will be the last to have them hence not solving the issue.

They have to design a viable form factor for physical games.

Re: Rumour: Xbox Still Evaluating Whether Project Helix Will Support Physical Discs

Blurays are clearly legacy at this point and supporting them/ordering them will get harder with time, which is why Sony decided to do this despite being market leaders. Bluray is just continuation, and doesn't solve the issue because even if next gen still reads discs the one after this one certainly won't.

Laptops moved away from them in 2013 or so... That means it lasted quite a while for game distribution.

I think the answer is game cards like nintendo is doing, even if they are the ones people loathe, the digital licence ones.

Still, they work as advertised, you put the card in, you can play the game, you sell the card someone else can play the game, they're small and they're probably cheap enough.

Most online services, say, xbox 360, while discontinued for a few years now still serve content, so with game cards the licence can work for a long time, and if it doesn't, well users can take them to court I guess.

Re: Digital Foundry 'Highly Impressed' With Final Fantasy 7 Remake On Xbox Series X And S

@dskatter exactly. Xbox series S has 4 TFlops against Switch 2's 3 TFlops docked. Even Xbox One X being 6 TFlops beats Xbox Series S in image quality/resolution in quite a few multiplat games that actually attempt it.

Xbox series S caveats are less RAM, 10 GB against Switch 2's 12 GB and that it is separated in two banks, so fast 8 GB, slower 2GB. Those 8GB are more than double the speed of those on the Switch 2 though.

So it's very simple. The moment a game is floating point starved or needs bandwidth... Series S should win unless devs ***** up.

Xbox Series S CPU will also never be the bottleneck here.

Re: Five Reasons Why 2026 Is One Of The Most Important Years In Xbox History

Yeah yeah. By March they'll be canceling a few titles. Talking about games made by AI and doing some more layoffs while sending out PR about how Xbox Gamepass hit some record and how the future of xbox is bright but also saying the layoffs they did hurt them.

And a few months afterwards journalists will be writing 2028 is the big year for xbox to redeem itself.

In my opinion this "cat" already lost it's seven lives, they have a big purgatory for a lot of customers if they ever want them to come back, and it either takes it being 1. Cheaper than the competition 2. Better than the competition 3. More pro-consumer than the competition.

All these are things they're horrible at.

Re: Talking Point: How Much Would You Be Willing To Spend On The Next Xbox Console?

Easy. Every time he says he cares for anything but his paycheck. He also lied in regards to how many games would come to PS5, stating plenty/most games were to stay exclusive, and then they didn't. He also promised exclusives for 10 years now. He said he wasn't shopping for japanese studios when unsealed emails said otherwise. There are more contradictions than that on unsealed emails btw.

He also blatantly lied in regards to real advantages for all the acquisitions he did. You can argue that he was simply incompetent, but there's a line there. There's some naivety in regards to that being the solution to his problems, but there's also blatant lies in regards to FTC/regulation and advantages for the customer.

Last but not least if we consider peter molyneux a pathological liar because of his overpromises, then Phil Spencer is also a good contender.

Re: Talking Point: How Much Would You Be Willing To Spend On The Next Xbox Console?

Not interested. Phil Spencer is a pathological liar and we've had 2 generations now where instead of building the brand they destroyed it. I don't trust them to fix it, and I sure won't buy a microsoft branded pc which is also bound to be a walled gamepass garden. Plus they already said/implied it would be more expensive than PS6.

All the studios they bought and closed or tore to the ground as well as the gamepass proce hikes tell me all I need to know about it/them.

If I was them I wouldn't even bother.
