For the past few weeks, I've been prepping myself for October's Gears of War: E-Day by plugging away at lots of Gears 5 multiplayer, and more specifically, appreciating just how good it all still looks on Xbox Series X.
A lot has changed since The Coalition's 2019 entry received its current-gen enhancements, but perhaps one of the biggest shifts has been how Xbox has continued to build out a proper PC gaming infrastructure.
Today, eager fans like myself were treated to a brand-new little trailer, accompanied by a post on Xbox Wire packed with all sorts of fancy details and technical doodads explaining just how good Gears of War: E-Day is going to look on PC.
Now I'm not going to sit here and pretend as though I'm an all-knowing egghead when it comes to the specifics here, rather a facilitator for those of you out there who are, and will no doubt find what I'm about to share a scintillating read.
The Coalition believes its partnership with NVIDIA will deliver Xbox fans a "first-class PC experience", achieved through "deep integration with GeForce RTX technologies, performance optimisation, and launch support". The article goes on to state:
“Gears of War: E-Day is being built to deliver a cinematic, visceral, and technically ambitious return to the origins of the franchise,” said Mike Perzel, Rendering Lead at The Coalition. “Built on DirectX 12, we’re focused on delivering a great experience across console and PC. Partnering with NVIDIA gives us the opportunity to further enhance that world for PC players with the performance, responsiveness, and visual fidelity PC players expect.”
It certainly sounds like E-Day's PC version is a genuine priority, rather than simply another way to play alongside console. You'd hope so if we consider it features the "Xbox Handheld" tag on its store page.
The Coalition says the game is being optimised for both "high-end, enthusiast desktops" and "mainstream spec machines". Whilst it's hard to know exactly what qualifies as "mainstream" in today's PC hardware landscape, it's reassuring to hear the studio isn't designing the PC experience solely for those with top-drawer rigs.
"Gears of War: E-Day is optimized for both performance and fidelity across a wide range of hardware. In addition to supporting cutting-edge rendering features from NVIDIA, E-Day will also support AMD FSR, Unreal Engine TSR, Intel XeSS and Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) on compatible hardware."
Of course, many of us will probably be sitting down with E-Day on our Xbox Series console of choice, come October 6. Whilst this NVIDIA partnership highlights the benefits of playing on PC, The Coalition's Rendering Lead Mike Perzel was keen to reassure console players the benefits will be felt on console too.
“Gears of War: E-Day is being built to deliver a cinematic, visceral, and technically ambitious return to the origins of the franchise...Built on DirectX 12, we’re focused on delivering a great experience across console and PC.”
See? He said console. Good good. But if that wasn't enough reassurance, Gears of War: E-Day also appeared during State of Unreal 2026 with a visually impressive tech demo, all captured on Xbox Series X.
