Fallout 76 Is Getting A Free Xbox Series X|S Upgrade This Summer

Bethesda has announced today that Fallout 76 will be getting a current-gen upgrade in Summer 2026, which includes some nice improvements for both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions.

The upgrade will actually be available to test for current owners of the game at some point this month, and then it'll roll out to everyone a little later.

Here's what Bethesda says about it:

"We’re excited to announce that during the month of June we will be kicking off public testing of the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5/Pro versions of the game. Available to everyone who owns Fallout 76, you will be able to download the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 test versions from the Xbox and PlayStation Stores. Once testing is completed, we plan on releasing the update later this summer! Please stay tuned to our social channels for more information on how you can participate in this testing period."

  • Targeted 60 FPS across Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PS5 Pro.
  • Improved draw distances.
  • Improved shadows.
  • 4K resolution (on compatible displays) on Xbox Series X, Xbox One X, PS5 Pro.
  • VRR (on compatible displays) on Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5, PS5 Pro.
  • PS5 and PS4 Pro will support 1440p while previous generation platforms will continue to support 1080p.

We don't yet have any images or footage for this upgrade yet, so we'll have to wait and see how it fares on Xbox Series X|S and beyond. Still, it sounds like it won't be long until it's in our hands!

If you're interested, there's also a big Infestation update that's going live for Fallout 76 today, the full patch notes of which are available over on the Bethesda website. We'll let you know when the Fallout 76 current-gen upgrade goes live.
