LEGO Batman Has Sold Pretty Well On Xbox So Far, Despite Forza & 007 Stealing The Limelight

007 First Light and Forza Horizon 6 may have dominated the Xbox headlines over the last few weeks, but another major title launched in the back half of May as well; LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. And, while the game doesn't seem to have had as much of a blockbuster start as those two titles, it looks as though it's sold pretty well so far - including on Xbox.

The folks over at Alinea Analytics have this week shared some interesting sales estimates on the new LEGO Batman title so far. The headline news here is that the game sold roughly 1.2 million copies in its first main week on sale (there were three days of paid early access beforehand); with more than 25% of those sales being on Xbox platforms.

"Legacy of the Dark Knight has sold 1.2M copies across PS5, Xbox, and Steam since its May 22 full launch (and May 19 advanced access), generating $83M in gross revenue. PS5 accounts for 53.3% of copies sold, Xbox for 25.1%, and Steam for 21.6%. That’s a console-heavy split, which makes sense given Lego Batman’s position as a more family-oriented title with deep history on console platforms."

Going back to our mentioning of 007 and Forza for a minute, Alinea also brought this situation up, eventually concluding that "the timing isn’t as big a misstep as it seems". LEGO has its own set of fans, and a good chunk of them have still flocked to this new Batman-themed title in the back half of May.

"One take I’ve seen going around online is that the release timing was bad for this one. There’s some truth in that. Launching so close to Forza Horizon 6 in particular seems like a bit of a snafu, given that June was otherwise an open goal in the release calendar. But I’d also say that this framing oversimplifies what – or more accurately, who – Lego games are actually for, and how they monetise and build lifetime value across the long tail.

Taking all of the above together, the timing isn’t as big a misstep as it seems."
