As part of today's 'Xbox First Look' broadcast, the team at 4A Games has finally revealed the next entry in the Metro series; Metro 2039. This is (somehow) an even darker, grittier look at the world taking a turn after nuclear disaster, and it seems like it'll be a real showpiece for current-gen systems.

You can take a look at the team's introduction to the new Metro game up above, which contains an opening cinematic, some sincere developer talk, and a little teaser snippet of gameplay right at the end. Oh, and here's a little bit of setup about the full game here as well:

"Developed by 4A Games, METRO 2039 builds upon their celebrated legacy while pushing further, both creatively and technically, than ever before. Working once again with Dmitry Glukhovsky, the 4A Games team delivers a deeply personal, dark and mature story, firmly rooted in their Eastern European heritage."

The team is currently aiming for a Winter 2026 release with Metro 2039, but we don't have a more specific launch date than that. Just watching through the showcase though, it appears as though 4A Games has waited until it was properly ready to reveal this game - and the screenshots down below only add fuel to the fact that Metro 2039 looks like it's coming on very nicely indeed.

How are you feeling about Metro 2039, folks? Head into the tunnels and chat with us about it down below.
