Xbox Must Live Up To Expectations Of Fans Who Have 'Counted On Us', Says Microsoft Boss

We mentioned earlier today how Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella had pledged to "always invest in gaming" at a recent internal Q&A, and one of the other key things he mentioned at the event was the desire to appeal to devoted Xbox fans.

The Microsoft boss mentioned this numerous times according to Windows Central's transcript, insisting that Xbox needs the same customers and "friends" in the future that it already has today, and that involves doing "what they expect us to do".

"We have to really make sure, whether it's console, whether it's PC, whether it's the lover of Forza, Halo, we really want to make sure they love us for what they expect us to do."

Nadella later addressed the feedback that he's seen from Xbox fans on the likes of social media, mentioning that it comes from a place of passion and from people who ultimately want Xbox to succeed and "do what we're meant to do as team Xbox".

"For those fans who have counted on us, I just want to make sure that we live up to what they expect of us."

In terms of what that actually entails, he didn't go into any specifics during the chat, but suggested that console and PC remain extremely important platforms for Xbox, that great first-party games are obviously crucial to the brand, and that ultimately the goal is to just provide as much "joy" as possible.

Even just a few weeks into Asha Sharma's role as Xbox boss, it does sound like the entire Microsoft organisation is taking a step back and acknowledging that certain things haven't gone to plan over the past few years, and it's going to be fascinating to see what happens in the coming months and years. They're saying the right things for now!
