Roundup: Here's What The Reviews Say About Planet Of Lana 2 On Xbox Game Pass

Planet Of Lana 2: Children of the Leaf is set to bring some gorgeous 2D platforming to Xbox Game Pass tomorrow, March 5th - which means that a bunch of critics have been hands-on with the game in recent weeks to see how it's shaping up.

That hands-on time has resulted in a batch of pre-release reviews, which we're going to round up for you down below in case you'd like to dive into it! Without further ado, here's what the critics are saying about Planet of Lana 2 so far:

The Sixth Axis (10/10)

"The puzzle difficulty is flawlessly pitched, with just enough challenge to tickle your little grey cells without resorting to a rage-quit scenario. The developers manage to keep the player invested – even with the trickier puzzles – by drip feeding progress. On each attempt, the next part of the challenge becomes obvious and you’ll find yourself getting that little bit further. But a word of warning to all players whose puzzling failures, like mine, result in Lana getting killed every five seconds; steel your nerves for Mui’s cries to his recently departed human companion. I suppose this is the price you pay for emotionally investing too much into an adorable collection of pixels!"

Nintendo Life (9/10)

"A visually intoxicating journey across an alien world, as full of cute critters as it is murderous robots. Planet of Lana 2 builds on the original game with a wider scope and worthwhile mechanical changes. The mix of stealth, platforming and Mui-based puzzles keeps Lana’s journey feeling fresh throughout."

Console Creatures (9/10)

"Planet of Lana 2: Children of the Leaf is packed with stunning love and care. I was floored by its visuals and music, accompanied by a story that took hold of my emotions in a way not many games do. The world has matured and so has the narrative, forcing protagonists Lana and Mui to grow and adapt in interesting ways. This is a sequel that does all the right things with its story, building a rich history with complex layers and characters. Planet of Lana 2 shows players what can be done with a minimalist approach: creating a touching and unique tale filled with surprises around each and every corner."

Checkpoint Gaming (8.5/10)

"Planet of Lana II is the sequel to Wishfully’s debut game, Planet of Lana. Like its previous title, the game continues to have outstanding visuals and an amazing score. Even then, there are some great upgrades that make this sequel that much stronger. We get more insight into Lana’s aspirations, along with Mui’s backstory. Admittedly, it’s not all perfect; Mui’s controls feel sluggish, and there’s unnecessary gameplay sandwiched between two cutscenes. With that said, there are new adorable creatures introduced that Mui can control, and the puzzles work well within the game. Sometimes sequels aren’t as good as the prequel, but this time, Planet of Lana II knocks it out of the park."

TechRaptor (7/10)

"In many ways, it's hard to find anything substantial to say about Planet of Lana 2. Just like the first game, it's a rock-solid cinematic platformer that challenges no conventions and makes no bold strides forward. Lana and Mui's second journey through the varied biomes of their planet is rewarding and compelling from a narrative standpoint, though, and its gameplay is perfectly inoffensive, too. If you're looking for six to eight hours of unchallenging and occasionally emotionally involving fun, you'll find it here for sure."

CGMagOnline (7/10)

"Whether you should purchase Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf ultimately depends on two things. First, how eager you are to continue Lana and Mui’s adventures and uncover more about the lore, history and inhabitants of Novo. Second, how much challenge you want from a puzzle platformer, because puzzle solving accounts for roughly 90 per cent of the game’s overall experience. If you are the type of player who enjoys getting stuck on a tricky brain teaser and does not mind putting the controller down before returning the next day with fresh eyes, Planet of Lana II may be right up your alley. For everyone else, I strongly recommend trying the game through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate before purchasing it outright, if you have access to that subscription."

At the time of writing, Planet of Lana 2 has a score of 79 on OpenCritic, and as mentioned, it joins the Xbox Game Pass PC & Ultimate library on Thursday, March 5th.
