Surprise! Square Enix has announced that after 14 years, the Nintendo 3DS classic Bravely Default is officially coming to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Xbox PC today, and we've spotted that you can already buy it on the Xbox Store!
For those who aren't aware, Bravely Default was a very popular RPG back in the 3DS days, racking up impressive reviews and serving as the first game in a series that has since received multiple new versions and spin-offs.
This version is called Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster, and it features various improvements:
"Based on the original version, this remaster features high-definition graphics, a redesigned user interface, ability to fast forward event scenes, and other modern conveniences. Networking features from the original version have been retooled for modern networks. Two types of minigames are also newly added."
In fact, the updated remaster came out on the Nintendo Switch 2 back in mid-2025, and our friends at Nintendo Life scored it an 8/10 in their review, suggesting that it's a "solid update" to a great Square Enix game, but that those who had already played it on the 3DS wouldn't necessarily need to double-dip.
"Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a solid update of one of Square’s finest modern turn-based RPGs. Its combination of a flexible job system, dynamic combat, and unexpectedly interesting story makes for an adventure that no fans of the JRPG genre will want to miss out on, especially any such fans that enjoyed Team Asano’s more recent work on the Octopath Traveler duology.
That in mind, there isn’t really anything new in this remaster that justifies the price of a double dip—if you already put a lot of time into this one on the 3DS back in the day, I’d caution you to first consider just how badly you want to spend your money on what ultimately amounts to little more than a nice visual bump. All the same, Bravely Default was and still is a great RPG; if you haven’t had the chance to give this one a shot yet, this port is a great way to see what the fuss is about."
