You've heard about Mewgenics, right? This new "Turn-Based Cat Tactics and Breeding Roguelite" from the minds behind The Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy, Closure and The End Is Nigh officially launched on PC this week, and it's already become the top seller on Steam after just one day.

Not only that, but if you look at the Metacritic ratings for new releases in 2026, Mewgenics sits at the top of the pile with an average score of 89. It's official in the running for Game of the Year after less than six full weeks!

So, when are we getting an Xbox version of it? Back in October, the Mewgenics team mentioned that work on the "console" versions had begun, and it was being prepared for a console release in 2026. No specific platforms were mentioned at the time, but in January, it was suggested that Switch 2 and "maybe one more" system was in the running.

There's obviously a chance this "one more" platform could be Xbox, but it also could be PlayStation or even the original Nintendo Switch. We're not going to get our hopes up too much, but it'd be a shame to miss out on this one!

It's also worth noting that this comment was made before Mewgenics had an amazing release day on Steam, making back its entire development costs within three hours. There's a whole lot more freedom to release the game on additional systems now, so they surely won't want to leave money on the table by avoiding Xbox.

Whatever the case may be, we'll let you know if we hear anything more about an official release for Mewgenics on Xbox later this year. In the meantime, here's a bit more info on the game itself along with some screenshots:

Build the ultimate cat army through tactical breeding and send them into deep, challenging turn-based adventures. Draft abilities, collect items, and manipulate genetics across generations in this roguelike tactics game from the creators of The Binding of Isaac and The End is Nigh.
