Xbox Partners With Kojima To Fix Major Save Bug In Death Stranding: Director's Cut

We've been absolutely loving Death Stranding Director's Cut ever since it landed on Xbox Series X and Series S in late 2024, but there's been a major bug that's been plaguing the Xbox PC / Play Anywhere version for ages now.

Basically, if you played the PC version for anything longer than around 30-60 minutes, there was a chance it would stop recording your progress. This is an issue that Windows Central editor Jez Corden has talked about many times:

The good news is that Jez was wrong about it not being fixed any time soon! His new report on Windows Central confirms that Xbox has partnered with Kojima Productions and 505 Games to fix the pesky save bug on the PC version of Death Stranding: Director's Cut, and it's rolling out via the Xbox Gaming Services background app on PC.

"To check if you have the fix, go to your Xbox PC app, click on your profile picture, go to Settings, and then the About section. Here, you should see three version numbers. If your "Gaming Services" version number is 32.106.13001.0 or higher, the fix for Death Stranding Director's Cut should be in. I spent all evening testing it myself on Gaming Services version 33.108.12001.0, and found that my progress was finally being saved consistently."

Obviously this doesn't affect the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions of Death Stranding: Director's Cut, but considering it's an Xbox Play Anywhere title, this means you can finally jump between the console version and PC version with no issues, including on the recently released ROG Xbox Ally handheld.

And yeah, we 100% recommend this game! In our review in 2024, it was one of the rare titles we handed an "Outstanding" 10/10 score to, praising it as "one of the most memorable journeys of the past few console cycles".
