Roundup: Here's What The Reviews Are Saying About Battlefield 6

After four years of waiting, Battlefield is back, with the upcoming Battlefield 6 about to drop on Xbox consoles this Friday. Naturally, then, we've got some early reviews trickling in for this one - which we're going to round up down below for you to take a look at.

Now, we are working on our own Battlefield 6 review here at Pure Xbox, but we just don't feel comfortable posting it without testing multiplayer out in proper public lobbies. Online play is the big thing in Battlefield of course, so we want to test that out with everyone else over the weekend before delivering our verdict!

In the meantime, here's what other folks are saying about Battlefield 6 so far:

Critical Hits (9.5/10)

"Battlefield 6 is a true return to the franchise’s roots, evoking that same “wow” feeling Battlefield 4 gave us when we first saw a skyscraper collapse — but this time, on a much larger scale. The game truly focuses on the franchise’s strongest points while also delivering a solid campaign and a story that leaves fans wanting more. In short: Battlefield is back, ladies and gentlemen."

PCGamesN (9/10)

"A host of minor and major improvements add up to make Battlefield 6 the smoothest, most bombastically entertaining entry in the series to date. A lacklustre campaign aside, this is a triumphant return and a must-play for both BF veterans and newcomers alike."

Wccftech (8.5/10)

"Battlefield 6 is an incredibly strong return to form for the series, with a multiplayer experience that is finely tuned with huge potential for what it could build into, destruction mechanics that bring a level of immersion back to the series that it was missing, and a more than solid visual and sound design package tying up how endlessly fun it is to play. The single-player campaign fails to impress, but the multiplayer experience more than makes up for it."

GameSpot (8/10)

"At its best, Battlefield 6 is everything you could ask for from a Battlefield game. Intense, close-quarters firefights transition into long-range skirmishes as control points change hands and the action moves from the tight confines of half-destroyed buildings to open stretches of land. Battlefield 6 is a return to form for a multiplayer shooter that thrives on emergent chaos."

Eurogamer (4/5)

"Ultimately though, Battlefield 6 clearly understands what makes the series special, even if it occasionally seems reluctant to accept it. Unlike 2042, the fun is easy to find from the outset, and what problems it has are much simpler to fix. It could be more ambitious, and I'd like more of those larger sandboxes to play in, but overall Battlefield 6 is a reliable reset – and, crucially, a very strong foundation for EA to build upon."

VGC (4/5)

"Battlefield 6 is exactly what the fans wanted, and what this game needed to be. The single player is fine, if largely tertiary, but the multiplayer shines. Extremely fun to play, rewarding and full of excellent maps and modes, this is the Battlefield multiplayer suite that will be bring those lost by 2042 back into the fold."

Push Square (Review-In-Progress)

"Battlefield 6 isn’t worth buying for its campaign alone — although we suspect no one's really doing that anyway. For us, it’s a nice starter while we’re waiting for the main meal. It showcases how great the gunplay feels and how nice the game looks as a whole. But it’s not breaking any boundaries from a narrative, mechanical, or immersive perspective. Did we enjoy our time with it? Yes, in a turn your brain off kind of way. Will we remember it by the time we’re deep in the trenches of the multiplayer? Probably not.

But, as mentioned, this is only a part of the Battlefield 6 experience. Once servers go live with real players, and we get some serious sessions out in the field, we'll update our review and score the game accordingly."

At the time of writing, we're looking at a score of 84 on both Metacritic and OpenCritic, which is a fairly strong showing for a game of this type with a heavy focus on online play. Of course, we'll know the full picture once multiplayer goes live and settles down - and in the meantime, we'll throw our guide to all of the game's important dates, times and post-launch content plans down below.
