Over the weekend, we highlighted the 10+ games coming to Xbox next week (which is now this week!), and the main game in the thumbnail was Holdfast: Nations at War - so we thought we'd tell you a bit more about it!
Holdfast: Nations at War first debuted on PC a few years ago, and currently has a "Very Positive" rating on Steam based on over 20,000 user reviews. The game is a "multiplayer first and third-person shooter set during the great Napoleonic Era and WW1", and features the ability to partake in 75v75 matches as part of its 150-player servers.
Here are couple of Holdfast reviews from players on Steam:
El Chupacabra on Steam: The gameplay itself is super simple but very fun. While the different unit classes all play similarly, there are many to choose from, and many still feel very unique. While the weapons and uniforms are very historically accurate, the gameplay is not. Don't expect a historical simulation with orderly line battles. It's more like total chaos - but hey, the gameplay is super fun and thus great.
Vonscheel on Steam: Honestly, this game is what you see online. It's what I expected. Its community, though small, is incredibly friendly and fun. I'm very grateful for the game. The developers clearly understand their audience, and their audience understands the developers.
The game sounds pretty good overall, as long as you're not looking for anything too serious! There are plenty of cool features as well - full crossplay, 27 different classes, proximity chat, over 100 unlockables and much more.
Holdfast: Nations at War releases for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on July 9th, 2025. We don't have a price yet (the Xbox Store page isn't displaying anything), but based on Steam, we're expecting it to be around the $20 mark.
