Former Exec Says He's 'Not Sure Xbox Would Be Around' If Microsoft Didn't Fix 360 RROD Issue

Former Microsoft exec Peter Moore has been getting all nostalgic again recently in his new chat with outlet The Game Business; touching on the Xbox 360 era when Moore helped lead the team. While we've heard some of this chatter before, he did make an interesting point about the whole Red Ring of Death saga - and how Xbox may well have exited the market had it not managed to fix the widespread reliability issue.

Speaking about the 360's RROD shenanigans, Moore said that if it hadn't been for Microsoft's huge efforts in fixing customer consoles, "I'm not sure the Xbox brand would be around today". Here's their full point on this particular topic:

"That's where a lot of the money was, [...] the overnight FedEx, UPS and DHL or whatever was being used at that time.

But the one thing I will always say is this was, for us, a defining moment. If we hadn't done what we did, I'm not sure the Xbox brand would be around today."

Moore also goes on to say that this era of Xbox "grew the industry immensely", and that gaming "wouldn't be anywhere close to what it is today" without Microsoft helping grow the industry during that time. It's a fascinating chat, and we recommend checking out the full interview via the link down below!

Finally, the former Xbox 360 boss closed out the discussion by looking back fondly on his time at Microsoft. Moore says "there was nobody at Microsoft other than us that were making decisions", and that this approach was "such a different vibe" from the exec's prior work at SEGA America.
