EA Is Shutting Down Anthem, And It Won't Be Playable Offline Either

It's not like anyone can complain that they've had no time to play it 😅

Maybe they’re trying to get it offline before the game preservation campaign goes any further haha

I was waiting to play it offline, hate those live services and multiplayer

Got 6 months to finish it. Played for about 20 hours last year. Time to get cracking and see if I can finish it. Did the same with The Crew when that shut down. At least I get my momey's worth before it disappears.

Surprised its lasted as long as it has to be brutally honest.

This practice should be illegal. They should have made it playable offline.

With games like this there is no need for game preservation.

@CaptainCluck It just so happens there's a huge movement that hit a milestone today to just do that, www.stopkillinggames.com ! If you're a European, go sign the EU petition. It looks like they've got enough signatures, but once they weed out all the fake ones, they need as many as they can get.

There were some good bones under Anthem, buried under some baffling design choices.

That's a game with poor word of mouth that thoroughly surprised me. I enjoyed playing it a couple of years ago, but haven't returned to it since, so it's not exactly a tragedy. I feel for those (probably not many) who were still having fun with it, though.

I was excited about it when it was revealed because of the flying mechanics but, when I played it (Game Pass Ultimate), I found it extremely boring, technical issues aside.

It's just flying around shooting stuff, not sure why it can't be played offline. I didn't like it and won't miss it, but I'm not sure why that argument would fly from what I remember.

Announcing this after SKG hit 1,000,000 signatures is gutsy.

I'm just waiting for the class action lawsuit where gamers take a stand against this. We need predecents to STOP these affornts to software preservation. I know how licensing laws work and I read that EULA agreement everytime, but what I hate is have no real "legal" power to protect the assets we purchase. Something like software that is shutdown and inaccessible becoming open source so anyone willing to can get it back up and running legally. Or better yet companies having to ensure that we can always access and experience software we pay for regardless of what's going on with the company (as in a freaking offline mode). I bought Anthem at launch; I pre-ordered the deluxe edition, and honestly, I never regretted the purchase. I had fun with the game until I moved on to other games. The fact it never lived up to its full potential is incredibly sad, but the bones were there and it was fun. Now never being able to access it again is just sad. I mostly played by myself. I just liked flying around the world and exploring. There's no excuse to not just hobble-together a basic offline mode.

Well I'd better get this game installed now and played through before it goes away forever.

@abe_hikura yeah. The core design of the gameplay was pretty well done. But, everything else surrounding it, basically ruined the game.
