EA and BioWare's Anthem has suffered a lot over the past few years, with development officially ending on the title back in 2021, and now it's been announced that the game will be going offline forever on January 12th, 2026.
An "Anthem Game Update" on the official EA website confirms this, with the FAQ mentioning how there won't be an offline version as the game "was designed to be an online-only title". Here's a snippet:
Q: How long will I have to play Anthem? A: Game servers will be available until January 12, 2026 at which time the game will no longer be playable.
Q: Why can’t I play Anthem in offline mode? A: Anthem was designed to be an online-only title so once the servers go offline, the game will no longer be playable.
If you're interested in checking out Anthem as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate / PC Game Pass, it'll remain playable on the service (via EA Play) until August 15th of this year. All of its microtransactions are being removed as of today.
For those who never followed this one, Anthem was an ambitious co-op action RPG from BioWare that struggled out the gate, launching to mixed reviews and disappointing sales from EA's perspective. There were plans to overhaul the game back in 2020, but various factors including the COVID-19 pandemic put a stop to that in February of 2021.
