After Eight Years, Star Wars Battlefront 2 Is Suddenly Exploding In Popularity Again

What a crazy ride it's been for Star Wars Battlefront 2. Remember all the controversy surrounding its lootboxes back at launch? There was a time when it seemed like Battlefront 2 was going to be the most poorly received video game ever made, and yet eight years later, it's still being played by a massive number of people to this day.

In fact, eight years since the release and five years since DICE and EA essentially gave up on it, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is absolutely exploding in popularity at the moment - apparently including on Xbox as well. Over on Steam, it's regularly hitting a peak player count of nearly 10k, while if you believe what some "sources" are saying on social media, it might have even hit a concurrent player count of over 160,000 in just 24 hours across all platforms.

As you can imagine, this has led to fresh calls from many fans for a Star Wars Battlefront 3, although EA and DICE have shown no signs of working on such a project thus far. Realistically, we'd suggest it probably won't happen at this point, but this kind of crazy momentum for Battlefront 2 makes it more of a possibility than ever.

We'll have to wait and see what happens on this, but for now, it's just fantastic to see this awesome game getting its flowers in 2025. Yes, it got off to a terrible start back in 2017, but the excellent work that DICE put into it over the following three years has led to a truly excellent multiplayer experience that seemingly has no end in sight.
