Baldur's Gate 3 Gets 18GB Xbox Update, Dev Responds To 'Disappearing Saves' Issue

Update (Tue 12th Dec, 2023): As you may have noticed, the Xbox system update didn't go live yesterday as planned, but Larian and Microsoft seem on top of it! Larian's Director of Publishing has taken to Twitter to report that the two parties are still working together to try and solve the issue with deleted saves in BG3 on Xbox.

The team over at Xbox Support have also provided a few suggestions while we wait for that upcoming fix:

Original story (Mon 11th Dec, 2023): That was quick! Following reports of stability issues and disappearing saves in Baldur's Gate 3 for Xbox over the weekend, developer Larian Studios has today pushed out an 18GB update to target the stability problems specifically.

Meanwhile, the saving issue is apparently something that's been targeted by Xbox as part of a system update.

In terms of that last bit, we've just checked for a system update and can't find anything as of yet, so it's possible this tweet jumped the gun a bit. When does it eventually arrive, here's what you'll need to do in order to update:

  • Go to the Settings app on your Xbox
  • Select "System"
  • Go down to "Updates"
  • If an update is available, you should see a prompt to activate it in here

It sounds like this is going to be pretty important to do, as we've seen an awful lot of reports of save files being deleted in Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox so far. As for the 18GB update, there are no patch notes to go with it, but we're assuming it addresses issues with Larian accounts, along with some progression bugs that players have experienced.
