Roundup: Here's What The Critics Are Saying About Like A Dragon Gaiden

We're busy with all sorts of game releases as of late, and one of the newest ones to arrive on the scene is Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. It stars the once-legendary yakuza Kazuma Kiryu who has gone into hiding but is thrust back into conflict by a mysterious figure.

Multiple reviews for this November Xbox Game Pass addition are now popping up online, and so far it's been pretty well received - doing a lot of things fans of this Yakuza spin-off were likely expecting.

So, here's a sample of the reviews we've come across over the past few hours (along with our own review!):

God Is A Geek - 9/10

"Like A Dragon Gaiden is a wonderful game that has some amazing moments, but it’s also a lot of fun to play. Combat is thrilling regardless of the fighting style, with both having advantages in battle. The minigames are in abundance, giving you plenty for Kiryu to do when not chasing down gangsters, and even the sub stories, while not as enjoyable as previous games, have some cool nods to the legacy Ryu Ga Gotoku have done so well to craft. In what could potentially be Kiryu’s final chapter in an action-adventure title, it does more than enough to satisfy fans of the series, whilst still offering enough for new players to enjoy."

"Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is another fine slice of Yakuza action from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio thart serves up a little bit of everything over the course of 15 or so hours. This may be a shorter affair than usual by quite some margin, but what's here still manages to deliver lots of exciting action, very silly gadgets, drama and deep cuts for the fans. If the intent was to whet our appetites for Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, then consider that mission well and truly complete. Roll on January 2024."

"Gaiden may be a brief excursion that occasionally leaves the full potential of its supporting cast on the table and often relies on remixing ideas from the series' past, but with enough new features to make combat exciting and a buffet of high-quality side content, it's still some of the most fun I've had with an RGG game."

It might lack some of the suspense and unpredictability of prior entries, but more than makes up for it in its more intimate exploration of one of the most legendary characters in gaming."
