Report: Call Of Duty Black Ops To Return With 'Gulf War' Setting In 2024

It's only been a matter of days since Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launched on Xbox, and we have a new report about the next CoD game already! 2024's release is set to be led by developer Treyarch, and the rumours are that it's another Black Ops title - this time set in and amongst the first Gulf War.

That information is coming from outlet Windows Central, which just posted an extensive report on the upcoming title. WC says "multiple sources familiar with Activision's plans" have told the site about Treyarch's intentions to continue with the Black Ops franchise in 2024 - and there's some juicy info in here.

Apparently, the title will focus on CIA operations around that time - seemingly for the campaign at least. As for other parts of the game, a round-based Zombies mode is set to return next year; currently under the internal codename of 'Cerberus'. Multiplayer-wise there aren't really any fresh details on this mode here, so we'll have to wait for more information on that.

One interesting note within this report is that Activision may end up leaning even further into its 'pre-order for early access' plans. The last couple of CoD games have allowed access to the story campaign a few days before launch, and this rumoured Black Ops title may take things even further by potentially granting pre-order players "weeks" of access to certain modes.

As always with reports such as this, the info here shouldn't be taken as definitive. Having said that, it is Treyarch's turn next year and they've been working on Black Ops titles for more than a decade now - so those elements seem pretty likely as we look towards CoD 2024.
