The Lord of the Rings has had some fantastic video game adaptations over the years, and now Amazon, in partnership with Embracer Group (the holder of Tolkien's IP), has announced a brand new open-world MMO set in Middle-earth.

Most interestingly, the game will coming to consoles and PC, and will be developed by Amazon's New World team, Orange County Studio. If you feel like you've heard something similar before, that's because this is actually the company's second attempt at a LotR MMO.

Back in 2019, Amazon announced a game based on the popular fantasy series only to cancel it two years later. The American tech company has also mentioned how this upcoming MMO is "unrelated" to the recent Amazon Prime series.

This project is still in the very early phases, so there's no release date just yet. In the meantime, Lord of the Rings fans can look forward to the new game, Gollum - scheduled to launch later this month on multiple platforms including Xbox Series X|S. There's also the original LotR MMO, which is still active.

How do you feel about Amazon having another crack at a LotR MMO? Have you played New World at all? Leave your thoughts below.
