At Summer Game Fest 2022 we learned about another official Aliens game arriving in 2023 - and now we have a locked in release date for it! Aliens: Dark Descent arrives June 20th on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and we have our first real look at gameplay up above.
'Dark Descent' differs from other recent Aliens titles, as this one is a "real-time tactical action game" from a top-down perspective. It looks to contain your typical array of infamous Aliens kit though - including that trusty pulse rifle with its iconic audio track.
Here's what you can expect from Aliens: Dark Descent this summer:
"In Aliens: Dark Descent, command a squad of hardened Colonial Marines to stop a terrifying Xenomorph outbreak on Moon Lethe. Lead your soldiers in real-time combat against iconic Xenomorphs, rogue operatives from the insatiable Weyland-Yutani Corporation, and a host of horrifying creatures new to the Alien franchise."
Will you be going dark this June? Let us know if this upcoming Aliens game is on your radar!

Isolation ruined me. No other style of Alien game will do...
@Kaloudz That was ALIEN, this is ALIENS
But I know what you mean man, I feel the same!
@themightyant Woah wait, they're not related? 😅
@Kaloudz Yes, but they couldn't be more different. Different directors... hell they are different genres.
Alien is a slow burn horror movie.
Aliens is an action movie.
I love them both. As Den of Geek wrote in their comparison:
@themightyant I can't disagree with that at all. I love the alien movies; apart from Resurrection. That was garbage. That and the 2nd AvP movie. The rest I love.
@Kaloudz I guess my point is there is enough room for BOTH a great survival horror Alien game, like Isolation, and a great action Aliens game... though i'm not convinced this one is it yet.
This gameplay trailer has me super excited. Has anybody ever tried Xenowerk Tactics on Android? I sunk a lot of hours into that game, and this looks like a massive console upgrade to that. If it is the case, then I'll be getting this game day one.
Cautiously optimistic for this. I enjoyed Fireteam Elite, but was let down by how it was balanced around online due to how quickly the online died. The (literal) bots are freaking brain-dead, and it makes it really hard to make any progress, even on easier settings. It should have had cross-play from the start; by the time it got it, it was too late.
I actually also enjoyed Colonial Marines, so I've got a pretty low bar for how good an Aliens game needs to be.
@themightyant It's kind of funny that Aliens is often referred to as an action film, but outside of the director's cut, action actually makes up little of the film. It's still largely based around tension, but in a different way to Alien — that being a more traditional horror flick formula.
@themightyant Oh right lol! Yeh I suppose you're right. I must admin I love playing aliens games at the arcades and they're action heavy.
@FenIsMightier You're right there is definitely tension especially in the first half hour. But I think if you were to look at most Action movies there is actually very little action compared to screen time, that doesn't stop it being viewed as more of an action film. (Though most films/games/art cross genres)
Personally I LOVED the way Aliens changed up the formula, far better than a safe more-of-the-same sequel. Need more of that in gaming!
@themightyant ALIENS, my favourite film of all time. Don’t make em like that anymore.
@Fenbops "Alright Sweethearts, You heard the man and you know the drill!"
Intrigued at first, then it lost me with "real-time, Squad Based."
@Spider-Kev What would your ideal Aliens game be?
