There's some incredibly sad news coming out of Hollywood today with a TMZ report revealing The Wire and John Wick actor Lance Reddick has passed away at the age of 60. It's believed he died of natural causes.
The actor was also known within the video game community for his extensive role as Commander Zavala in Bungie's Destiny series. He began playing the Titan Vanguard leader in 2014 and had contributed to the character's voice dialogue over the past decade, including the recent release Destiny 2: Lightfall.
Bungie has shared the following message via its social channels:
"Lance Reddick was an iconic presence on screen, in Destiny, and most importantly, in person. His love for our community shined through in Commander Zavala, in his uncompromising dedication to his craft, and out of the radiating kindness that touched those around him. To say he will be missed is a profound understatement, yet no less true."
Apart from his role as Commander Zavala in the Destiny series, Reddick also contributed to projects such as Quantum Break (Martin Hatch) and the PlayStation title Horizon Forbidden West (Sylens). As highlighted by Kotaku, many Destiny 2 players are now flocking to Reddick's character in-game to honor their commander.
On behalf of the community here at Pure Xbox, our thoughts go out to Lance's family and friends during this difficult time.

He was a fantastic actor with amazing screen presence and gravity. Loved him in Bosch and also in good'ol X1 exclusive Quantum Break. RIP.
Sad to hear this news. I really enjoyed his as the voice of Thordak in The Legend of Vox Machina, I thought he nailed it perfectly. I hope he was able to record his parts for Season 3 before he passed.
Sad news indeed. He was practically the only thing I liked about that awful Resident Evil series in Netflix. He will be missed.
@Tasuki I imagine they record upfront for their whole Season rather than call back actors every other month, so the chances are good. That said, I do wonder how Destiny will approach this. Recasting his voice (like Ghost) would be massively disrespectful, but then again, he had such a unique and distinct voice that I don't think they'll be able to find a voice artist that comes anywhere near authentic.
Sad, he passed away relatively young. RIP.
RIP agent Broyles!
Such sad news. He was a unique actor that elevated everything he was in. I have fond memories of him in everything from The Wire, Fringe, Bosch, John Wick, Horizon, Lost, Quantum Break and more
We lost a great one. RIP.
Sad news. Incredible voice, I enjoyed him a lot in Quantum Break, Horizon, Destiny and John Wick.
Big sad. Destiny, Castlevania, Horizon, freaking Albert Wesker (even if the show was poop).
That doesn't even include his excellent work on legends like the Wire
First time I ever saw him was on Law and Order, he was an FBI agent with a brief role but he stole the show. Such a unique voice. I put him right there with Keith David as my favorites. This is a sad day, 60 is very young to leave us.
@Kaloudz There are a lot of moral and legal and financial question marks all over it, but these AI voice generators are becoming deceptively good. But I personally also hate to see that happen to get a synthetic replacement of the actor's voice. However Disney is going to do it with Darth Vader as the voice actor is now too old and retired.
He'll always be Quantum Break's Martin Hatch to me.
Terribly depressing. Being in the middle of a horizon binge lately, I've just been watching his interviews and such recently and going on about how cool he is. I'm not familiar with his more famous film and tv work but in games, I was introduced to him as Hatch ( feel kind of bad loving to hate him with that role, but hey, that's the role!). The game is synonymous with him to me, in fact his part is there only part I remember. Sylens steals the show in horizon and that story will be broken now without him. And I never even realized he was Zavala the only character that actually made me take interest in destiny before rapidly losing it.
Truly the brightest light of any set he was on.
@BrilliantBill When you say voice, do you mean a bit like the gizmo in Scream 3? Where it can replicate a voice? Because if so, that sort of tech is amazing!
