Although it was overshadowed by the arrival of Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition earlier this week, Inkulinati also launched on Xbox Game Pass back on January 31st, and the reception seems to be pretty good so far.
There are a handful of reviews doing the rounds online right now, and all of them appear to be positive.
Here's what some critics have to say:
CogConnected (85/100)
"This is the first release from Yaza Games, but they seem like a team with some fresh ideas and the vision to implement them. Daedalic Entertainment publishes a lot of novel strategy titles that fail to hold your attention for long. Inkulinati earns its place in your library with its depth."
Eurogamer (4/5)
"Inkulinati is a confident strategy game, even if that comes at overshooting the balance at times. Its celebration of daft joy, dedicated aesthetic and sense of humour go hand in hand with thoughtful and strategic battles, with neither undermining the other. It's an achievement to make something that feels so playful without obscuring the tactical work underneath."
Gfinity (8/10)

Elsewhere, the game currently holds a "Positive" rating on Steam based on only 40 ratings so far, while both Metacritic and the Xbox Store don't have average scores yet, but it seems they'll lean towards a pretty positive outcome.
Unfortunately, as we saw with Pentiment last year, the game has been attacked a little bit with some one-star reviews on the Xbox Store - not criticising the game, but the fact that it's not a new AAA experience on Xbox Game Pass.
Obviously we suggest ignoring comments like this and trying the game out for yourself, and keep in mind that Inkulinati is still in "Game Preview" form right now, which means it's set to continue improving until it reaches a final release.

Love that game! So fun and with deep gameplay.
Do we have to give voice to the cretins of the Xbox Store?
I wonder why no one moderates Xbox Store comments. I have seen so many sexist, racism, xenophobic, homophobic, whateverphobic comments, it's mind boggling. Some of them all the way from 2019... It's like all Call of Duty mother-lovers of old days moved there. Yet barely anyone swears in online games from fear of being banned.
Got a long weekend coming up, so I’ll have a look - from the reviews it sounds fun. The Financial Times(!) also gave it a good review.
It’s past time they dropped the whole store comments thing, Sony manage without it as do Nintendo. Either that or moderate the idiots out. It’s not like they can’t, the developer of Calico protested about it last year and got some of the comments removed.
I have it downloaded but so many bloody games to play at the moment. It’s a real issue.
I tried to play but I usually chose normal difficulty to start and I think I need to play as a beginner as normal was utterly confusing…
That review was probably written by UltimateOtaku
What’s the difference between a “game preview” and a beta?
The Czech Republic 🇨🇿 is a small nation, but we deserve the Czech language in the games 😔
@Trmn8r 🤣🤣 nah his review would have just said: ‘Forspoken is better’.
I really like the dexterity battle system.
I hope to see more mini skill games like that in strategy games.
@AlwaysPlaying With Beta testing they pay you to playtest it. With "Game Preview" you pay them.
