Grounded

Remember when it seemed a little odd that famous western RPG developer Obsidian Entertainment had decided to make a survival game about avoiding giant bugs in an overgrown garden? Well, things are getting even stranger as Grounded — which is set to hit its 1.0 release this September — is being converted into a TV series!

Yeah, this isn't the next Xbox Games Studios franchise we expected to see adapted for TV after Halo, but nonetheless, it's coming our way sometime in the near future. Here are a few quotes from those bringing the world of Grounded to life on TV:

We couldn’t be more excited about diving into the whimsical universe of Grounded. This partnership will be one of great collaboration, expanding on an already wonderful journey of exploration and adventure

The team at Obsidian have created an incredible world that has already grabbed the attention of the gaming community. We are excited to work with our incredible partners to bring the story to life in an animated series

The show is being written by Star Wars: The Clone Wars writer Brent Friedman, who'll tell the story of "four friends, who the summer before high school, plan “big things” to elevate their social standing, but their plans are upended when they stumble upon shrinking technology that makes them two inches tall." Brien Goodrich, who directed the Halo 4 and Halo 5 games, will also work as director on the Grounded series.

And if you've played Grounded the game, you'll know much of the setup from this point onwards, fending for your lives in a backyard that's more a jungle than a kids play area. We should find out a little more info on the show later this month, as the development team will be hosting a panel at San Diego Comic Con, which takes place July 21-24.

Are you excited about this news? Or are you waiting to hear more about Obsidian's next game? Let us know!
