The free-to-play multiplayer component of Halo Infinite is now available across Xbox and PC. If you have been playing it on a computer via Steam, then you've helped Xbox Game Studios set some new records.

As highlighted by Niko Partners senior analyst, Daniel Ahmad, the game has already become the "most successful" Xbox Game Studios title on Steam of all time. In under three hours, it reached 162k peak concurrent users - well and truly surpassing its other recent release, Forza Horizon 5.

At the time of writing, that number has since peaked at 272,586 players. It's just underneath Valve's titles Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2. We'll of course keep monitoring the player numbers, but it's already a record-breaker.

Again, the game is free-to-play - so that's something to definitely factor in, but it's also worth considering that this figure doesn't even include Xbox players and Windows Store users.

Did you expect to see Halo's multiplayer pulling these numbers on day one? Are you still recovering from the surprise of its launch? Leave a comment down below.
