Splitgate is continuing to be a worldwide phenomenon. It even secured a spot during Gamescom Opening Night Live when Season Zero of the game was announced and subsequently launched. With such success, it's obviously gaining a wide pool of players, some of which are requesting a battle royale mode be added in the future. For now though, it doesn't seem like something the developers at 1047 Games are keen on doing.
Responding to a fan on Twitter, the team said they have "no plans for a Battle Royale on the horizon", and while they have a "never-say-never philosophy for most features", it slips into the "don't hold your breath category".
Despite the requests, a surprising number of fans actually seem to want the opposite instead. The most liked response is somebody requesting the team doesn't add one in at all, with a few other replies echoing that opinion.
It's quite refreshing to have a multiplayer game that isn't conforming to modern multiplayer standards. There's something about Splitgate that feels very retro and reminds us of those Xbox 360 days where we'd be up until the early hours of the morning playing Halo 3. As long as it keeps that spirit, we'll probably be sticking around.

If Microsoft doesn't buy these guys out, I'll be genuinely shocked. The portal mechanic should be used in every Halo multiplayer going forward.
The only downside would be the servers for a while, but I’d love it. If Halo Infinite whiffs it big time, at least there is the charm of Splitgate. Need to find more time to play it. I sort of fell off from it when the servers had a long queue time.
I love how it feels so much like Halo 4 and that I’ve got the muscle memory to still be good at it. Haven’t felt so competent at an FPS since Overwatch. Lol.
Is this game any good? And easy to get into? The idea of it sounds like I'd be getting annoyed every minute 😂
@UltimateOtaku91 If you like FPS, yes - just download this game. You've got nothing to lose considering it's free! I've recommended it to countless friends now and they've all enjoyed it. And yeah - it's relatively simple. It might take a while to become effective with portals but other than that, it's easy to pick up and play.
As for a BR mode, I'm not too sure - the beauty of this game is that it's channelling shooters of the past two decades, and as much as the BR experience has been part of that in recent times, I fear it would take focus away from what makes this game so great in the first place (the classic arena-based combat).
@UltimateOtaku91
It is quickly addictive.
I started by just running and gunning... not using the portal mechanic... and it was still fun.
Later, I got into using the portals to get sneaky kills from behind the enemy... it is SO satisfying.
I'm honestly wondering whether Halo will match the level of fun of Splitgate (hoping it will!).
BTW, I am a moderately competent gamer (at best), but I still manage to top score in Splitgate... Something I find impossible in the likes of CoD these days.
@antstephenson Totally agree. The portal mechanic changes everything. Nothing better than being hunted down and portalling(?) behind the enemy for a kill.
@Liam_Doolan one of the best shooters I’ve played since Titanfall.
@UltimateOtaku91 Easy to get into and a hell of a lot of fun. It’s free so give it a go. I’ve just bought the battle pass.
@somnambulance I played the infinite flight and loved it but I have to be honest here, Splitgate is more fun. Not sure if I’ll quit it when Infinite launches but I very much doubt it.
