We pointed out yesterday that Microsoft had begun rolling out a brand-new Microsoft Edge app to Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring, and an interesting note is that Google Stadia actually works on it (thanks VGC).
The new app is the Chromium-based version of Microsoft Edge, and fans have been testing all sorts of cloud streaming services including Google Stadia, and so far Stadia has been receiving some positive feedback:
"I just did a quick test and yes, Stadia works, did a quick test with Destiny and it plays as good as it does when running Chrome on PC."
As previously mentioned, the app is only currently available to a select number of Xbox Insiders for now, and it reportedly has "a lot of things that don't work yet", so it might be a while before it rolls out to the public.
Ultimately though, we're just glad to finally be getting a brand-new internet browser after six years of using the very outdated Microsoft Edge app for Xbox One. Let's hope we don't have to wait too long for a full release!
What do you make of this? Give us your thoughts down in the comments below.

Ain't stadia dead yet? Biggest flop in gaming
@UltimateOtaku91 whoa whoa whoa... I mean it never succeed but there is way bigger flops in gaming ..
@Terrin as a "console" I'd say it is.
It's not like gamepass or ps now where you pay a small monthly fee and have hundreds of games to pick from, it was paying full price for a game that you had to stream
It had no must have exclusives and was also streaming only. Two good reasons it flopped for a start. You have to take Microsoft’s approach, very slowly and gently and wait for internet infrastructure to be good in a lot more areas of the world. Including Greater London with my 6mbs rubbish.
@UltimateOtaku91
Even as a console over the years we had alot of flops just non inthe last few gems
But things like jaguar , or the 3do.
But even recently it isn't a "console" but like the udraw tablet comes to mine that killed a entire large publishing house
Maybe this will get some more people interested in the platform. Personally I love stadia and hope it succeeds. Being able to play it in a new way is always welcome.
@UltimateOtaku91 and then pay a monthly fee on top to play it at a high quality
Does anyone know if this means any of the online emulators (that preferably work with an Xbox gamepad) now work on the new version of Edge for Xbox? It would be pretty neat if you could play NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. games on an Xbox console simply by visiting a website.
@101Force just use developer mode and you can do so much more with emulation
@Terrin I suppose you could argue at least with 3DO or Jaguar there’s a residual value on the retro market. Stadia you’re sinking money inevitably get switched off..
Stadia is pretty much dead in the water at this point. I give it a year tops before Google officially pulls the plug on that.
Oh good. I'll soon be able to not use my Stadia account and controller on another device. Cool!
I'm actuallu surprised they released a fully featured Edge browser, they even allow plugins! It's insane!
@UltimateOtaku91 still room to be proven wrong but I think it's still not a bigger failure than the Ouya or the Atari Jaguar.
@elpardo1984 true in the resell market but again that's not making the original companies Money that is just hey I want this weird bad part of gaming history. But those are still massive flops. It won't be any difference say if stadia shuts down (like it will next 2-3 years) 15 years later there controllers even though will be worthless will net a small profit for people to just say they have one
@Tharsman I forgot about the ouya man that was a flop.. just out of the box ...
Remember the ad campaigns it's gonna change gaming forever!!!
@Terrin I still have my Ouya.
@Tharsman yeah, too bad using Edge with a controller is hell
@HotGoomba I have not tested this new version, but I occasionally use the current Edge browser to hunt down achievement guides, since the achievement list has a good integration to search for them.
I have found it serviceable, althogh the old edge suffers formatting issues here and there due to it being the old engine.
Look forward to try this new version.
I'm unlikely to use it for much more than I alrwdy use it, but hope it will be more responsive jumping between tabs and between game and browser.
@HotGoomba You should be able to plug in a mouse and keyboard to the Xbox now. Some might not need a pc anymore..
