2K Acquires HB Studios, Tiger Woods Returns To The PGA Tour Games

In a pretty huge announcement for golf fans today, 2K has revealed that not only has it moved to acquire PGA Tour 2K21 developer HB Studios, but it has also signed a long-term deal with golf superstar Tiger Woods.

As part of the acquisition of HB Studios (expected to complete in Q1 2021), the developers’ Lunenburg studio location will be retained for use as the head office for Take-Two Interactive Canada, Inc., with plans to grow the business.

Here's what HB Studios president James Seaboyer had to say about the news:

We’re thrilled to officially become part of the 2K family and continue development of the PGA TOUR 2K franchise. Our work with 2K on PGA TOUR 2K21 brought our capabilities and aspirations to the next level, and we can’t wait to show the world what we’re planning for the future.”

In regards to the Tiger Woods news, this announcement confirms that Woods has signed a long-term deal to provide his name and likeness exclusively to 2K's PGA Tour series, and he will also act as executive director and consultant for the franchise, while 2K will in turn partner with Woods’ TGR Foundation.

Here's what Tiger Woods had to say about joining up with 2K:

“I am looking forward to making my return to the video game landscape, and with 2K and HB Studios, I’ve found the right partners to make it happen. I’m honored to take part in this opportunity and look forward to sharing my expertise and insights as we build the future of golf video games together.”

It remains to be seen whether Tiger Woods will be added into PGA Tour 2K21 or whether he will play a bigger role starting with PGA Tour 2K22, but in any case, 2K definitely seems very committed to its golf games moving forward.
