Microsoft has today unveiled the new FPS Boost program for Xbox Series X and S, bringing frame rate boosts to select backwards compatible games on the new consoles, starting with five titles today.
Fortunately, we won't have long to wait until the next batch, as Xbox director of project management Jason Ronald has confirmed that they will be added very regularly in the coming months.
Here's what Ronald had to say in an interview with YouTuber ColtEastwood:
"FPS Boost is releasing this week on February 17th, and then for the games that are currently in testing, we expect to release new games every couple of weeks over the next couple of months, that all have this capability enabled."
The new feature allows Microsoft to improve the frame rate of games with no work required by the developer whatsoever, upgrading titles from 30FPS to 60FPS, and even 60FPS to 120FPS in some cases.
Excited for this feature on Xbox Series X and S? Give us your thoughts about it below.

This is a massive advantage for Series X/S and very nice bonus!
@Medic_Alert i don't mind him. He has a PS5 and praises it as well so not sure how he can fanboy AND like both. I like the RDX podcast and it's crew as they are pretty honest and techy...and funny.
@Medic_Alert
He also has a PS5 and enjoys that.
I think he lets himself down though responding to trolls on Twitter, which then makes him look equally as bad.
Such a great bonus. Thanks Microsoft. My XSX purchase was well founded! Curious though. How can they achieve this without buggering up the physics? amazed!
Fantastic. Appreciate the dedication and loyalty to the community. I just hope more 360 games get green-lit. There's a few (F.E.A.R, Condemned etc) that currently don't work on XSX. So a bit disdappointed. Thank god I still have my 360 Elite. Maybe it's not possible for whatever reason. Shame when you consider how many games are out there. Trust me to pick troublesome games lol
Not sure where to ask this question but I'm having issues getting my Series X to recognise my monitor as 4K. Its all fine for my PS5 and PC that correctly displays the resolution automatically as well as the HDR. The Series X says my monitor isn't 4K? Only gives me 1440p? Is this a known issue and will it be fixed? It makes buying a 4k console that won't work on a 4k monitor a bit frustrating to say the least.
Is there a section on the site that is open for these kind of issues (and potentially workarounds)?
@john117 It’s 60htz only. Doesn’t do 120. It’s also the cable that comes with series x and ps5 is fine with it. Monitor is acer H277HK. Have started a forum post to see if others have the same issue or if it’s a broken product. Hope not. Had 360 for 2 months then RROD and haven’t come back to MS until now. Maybe I’m cursed when it comes to MS products!?!
