It's rumour time! We saw a tease of the next Forza Motorsport game at the Xbox Games Showcase back in July, but according to one insider, there's a chance we might get the next Forza Horizon game first.
This comes from reliable insider Jeff Grubb on the Xbox Empire podcast, who was asked whether he knows of any first-party games arriving on Xbox in 2021, suggesting Forza Horizon 5 might be on the cards.
"We saw Forza Motorsport get teased a few months ago, I think that we might get the next Forza Horizon game first, and I think that might be coming this coming year. They're in a weird situation where for some reason, Playground [Games] - it does seem like they might be ready to go first."
There's been a lot of speculation and hope surrounding the potential of setting Forza Horizon 5 in Japan, which the hosts noted on the podcast, but Grubb didn't want to reveal any further details on this for now.
"I think I know the setting, but I'm going to let them announce it..."
Do you think Forza Horizon 5 will arrive before Motorsport next year? Let us know in the comments.

A new Horizon would be fine by me. I’ve always preferred the Horizon series to Motorsport. Japan would be a fun setting, my favorite Horizon cars typically come from the Japanese manufacturers.
Playground has to be working overtime to have FH5 come out 2021 and Fable in the works.
Horizon >Motorsport
If/when it arrives, I'm there. I also wonder what kinda mad DLC it'll get, if any. Horizon 3 got Hot Wheels, Horizon 4 got LEGO...
If Horizon 5 sticks with the toy theme and gets some sort of Micro Machines DLC, I'll lose my sh*t.
Horizon has built itself into the premier driving game series. I can't count how many times I wished I just had miles of open roads in Gran Turismo to really give the cars a workout.
With the XSX they could almost render the whole of Hokkaido. It's on the same longitude as the UK so the seasons would be very similar with snowy winters and cherry blossom springs.
Personally I'd like a return to the mechanics of the first game with the named boss characters to beat at each round. Racing against random gamertags in each race is hardly realistic.
@VenomousAlbino micro machines dlc would be sick!
@RedShirtRod They have a second studio now.
Yes please! Love Forza Horizon series! The best racing games ever made (humms Shooting Star from FH4 soundtrack).
The Forza Horizon games is the best racing game series of all time. So another entry would be, obviously, very welcome.
Turn 10 is probably completely re-booting the Motorsport franchise. I could see them doing a new game just called “Forza Motorsport”, make it look beautiful, play awesome, & just add content to it throughout the generation.
@Senua yes but the studio can't be made up of entirely new members. They'd have to split experience between the two. Don't get me wrong, I think Playground is Xbox's best studio and if anyone could do it it would be them. Just think that's a lot of pressure to put on them.
@graysoncharles
There are millions of “gear heads” out there that love that series, though. And give Turn 10 credit......if you like track based racers, nothing beats Motorsport.
Well that would get me to buy a Series X, the console needs a killer app.
@Kefka2589 Honestly I feel like Forza 7 was a bit of a letdown, Forza 4 and 6 feel like the highlights in that series.
Oh plzplzplzplzplz
yes please, and thank you.
Yes hope so maybe I'll able to get a series x by than
I’d love a Horizon set it Japan. That’s such a beautiful country. And they’ve got a ton of different places with different kinds of terrain, big cities, farmland, mountains, waterfalls, etc.
@KelticDevil absolutely true. Even as someone who has never even been behind the wheel of a car, I think that Forza Motorsport is, in my opinion, unparalleled in the sim racing genre and, while I do prefer Horizon on the whole, I wouldn't want Motorsport to go away.
@VenomousAlbino
I completely agree. I prefer FH myself, as well. But I still love Motorsport.
And the games are different enough & of high enough quality (obviously) to co-exist. 👍🏻
If Grubb says it, it's probably accurate.
Edit: Also, I love Horizon. I play Horizon 3 all the time.
@Bmartin001 100% mate!
Horizon is far better than motorsport. For me it's the best racing series ever. So many good memories.
whether it comes first or second, i just hope it's set in japan
As a newcomer to the series, I've played Motorsport 5, and Horizon 4. I really do appreciate they cater for different tastes.
As for a potential Horizon 5, I would hope that it is truly next gen, and taking full advantage of the Series X hardware. So I can wait for that to release.
@Kefka2589 Yeah I love Forza, seems to strike that perfect balance for a sim-cade racer and the car modification is among the best around. It's the only game that lets you do some major conversions yourself like turning a FWD hatchback into an AWD rally car with an engine swap. Forza 5 is the reason I got an Xbox One when it launched.
He started nearly every sentence with "I think", so... It could happen, I guess, but I don't think there's a lot of weight behind these comments.
@RedShirtRod They how two separate studios, so the Fable people don’t also work on FH. Since 2012 they’ve always made a new Horizon games in 2 years, so 2021 actually be giving them more time than normal.
I doubt it if they’ve gone through the trouble of enhancing it for next gen consoles, maybe in Q4 of next year but not any time soon
@Peach64 Senua mentioned the same thing. The second studio opened in 2017. That would mean Playground would have had 3 years to not only create and finish FH5, but lend experienced members from the first studio to get the second up and running. When you create new departments you have to split the experienced and new hires between both. That's a lot of pressure Microsoft would be putting on them.
I don't see Forza Horizon 5 happening in 2021 because of Fable. Licensing does make the Forza situation complicated though, the normal 4 year delisting setup suggests there'll be no purchasable Forza Motorsport by November 2021 and no purchasable Forza Horizon by November 2022.
It wouldn't make sense for two Forzas competing for attention. Given the new Motorsport has already been revealed, I'd say Horizon 5 will come afterwards.
@VenomousAlbino Micro machines could work, if the setting is Japan they could combine micro machines with gashapon in some way
Thinking about it, isn't it more likely that Motorsport arrives before Horizon 5? Look at it like this: Microsoft bothered to optimise Forza Horizon 4 for Series X|S, but didn't do the same for Forza Motorsport 7, which says to me that Microsoft plans for Horizon 4 to be around for a while yet, and the new Forza Motorsport will arrive sooner rather than later.
Why choose? Game Pass means BOTH. And BOTH is the only correct answer to "Which one do you want?"
I'm loving FH4, haven't played it a ton but I'm enjoying myself. I have motorsport 7 installed and I'll be playing that a bit to see how I like it. That's a pure racer where Horizon is pure fun. I'd take a new horizon over motorsport
I played a lot of Forza Motorsport in the past, but Horizon has improved so much! I recently installed FM7 and forgot how frustrating it was to not be able to free roam.
